Oh Chris, I feel for you and your family. Take heart old boy. Think of all the good times you and Retro had. I hope you feel better soon. 19 years is a very long time. He will always live in your heart.
I feel for you. I lost both mine recently enough. One just before my son was born and the other shortly after his birth. It was absolutely horrible not being a le to help either of them and I bawled for months. They were only 7 and 5.
Glad you got so many years with your pal, it’s awful when they’re gone. Treasure the memories.
Thank you for all the kind words and thoughts guys. It’s nuts that a little furry buggar could worm his way into my heart so much. I have lots of photos and videos of him in action…and his memory will live on with me.
Sad to hear you lost him, good to hear you got so much great memories with him.
Even though I’ve obly known her for about 2 years now, I’ve already grown fond of my girlfriend’s cat in that short time. I can’t imagine coming home and not hearing her meow.
Oh, man that sucks. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, Chris. Our little friends become parts of our families and I know how much it hurts to lose them. Don’t know what else to say, but I wish you and your family comfort.
We had taken to putting newspaper around the litter box because of the decline in his “accuracy” as his health declined. My normal morning routine was to go into the laundry room (dubbed “The Poopy Room”) and clean the litter box, and change the newspaper. We pulled up the newspaper last night (almost 2 years of having to have it put down) and this morning I walked in to a clean floor, no newspaper. The irony of being sad that I don’t have to clean up poopy newspapers is not lost on me…
Damn! Now I want to cry… The irony… I’ve lost a couple of pets, but nothing like this (19 years). Hang in there man.
I’m so very sorry for your loss.
My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family. We are also “cat people” so my wife Jeanette and I share your pain of loss.
It sounds like Retro had a long, loving and wonderful life.
With your permission, in his honor, I’d like to add a character (a black cat of course) to my next simNovel (currently in progress).
That would be a great tribute to Retro! I’m looking forward to your next creation…
Imagine my surprise when I looked out the front window this morning - and perched on the rim of the garden where Retro’s ashes have been scattered - he even has the white patch on the front of his chest like Retro did…!
That’s certainly a beautiful creature. New addition, stray, or apparition?
Take him in! cried the crowd.
He is probably a neighborhood cat - not ours…but funny that he choose this week to come around.
Very,Very Sorry. It’s Amazing how attached we become to our Pets,We lost our family Dog “Rascal” 1- 1/2 ago,I still get up every morning and reach for him by the side of my bed where he used to sleep.
Hey Beach,
Sorry to hear about Retro. We have a short hair, named Selena (I wanted to name her Guenhwyvar but the family voted me down). She showed up at our door as a stray; she had a collar but no tags. She was in terrible shape and we couldn’t find her owner (which was probably a good thing) so we nursed her back to health and kept her. She is soooo much a part of the family. She’s getting old but none of us can bear the thought that she might soon move on. So, I get it…

Just saying…
Losing a pet is rough, and I punish myself extra by staying in the room right till the end, that is a gut punch for sure. Of course I am notorious of waiting way to long to committing to the last car ride.
Respect for that, though. That your pets get to stay with their favorite human(s) till the last moment. But I can imagine some people would rather choose the other option.
Yeah, I’m really, really happy I was there with him as he took his last breath. I hope he heard me and was comforted by that.
Mine were both in my lap when they got their injections. Terrible feeling when they just go limp. Takes a part of you with them.
