Sorry. But I am unable to see as I write as the OP of a thread. However, if I reply to my own thread, all is well.
This came out last night, shared with me by my hangar neighbor, a two-time Sonex builder and regular at the Sonex booth at Oshkosh. We saw this at Vans. And if you know me you know the story of RotorX. The RotorX demise caused downstream effects on my life that I am still struggling with. So my heart goes out to the factory, the owners and of course the builders. But also I think this is the 2nd of many dead canaries to come. Somehow we are not feeling the recession this time the way we did in the past. Maybe it’s the raging success of the market. Maybe it’s the massive money thrown at AI masking failures elsewhere. Or maybe I am using a dying hobby inappropriately as a harbinger. The video is 11 minutes. If you want to see real loss and real contrition from a business owner who actually cares, it is hard to do better. He is clearly in a world of pain. RIP to a really wonderful experimental kitmaker. If they can’t survive, it is hard to see how anyone can.
Man, that hurts to watch. As someone whom has been through a similar scenario, I can tell you that he is living a nightmare that has no clear ending. He feeels the weight of letting down a long list of people and organizations, beginning with his employees, who look to him to literally put food on their table. It’s a worst case situation and I hope that his marriage survives.
As to the root of the cause, kit building used to be a less costly way to achieve airplane ownership. But, now flying in general has gotten so expensive, that I’m not sure that is still the case, or if it is relevant.
Damn! Not Sonex too… ![]()
