@HAL
Why is abbreviated such a long word?

Hi @jross! That’s a great question. The word “abbreviated” is actually not an abbreviation itself, but rather a full word that describes a process of shortening words or phrases. It comes from the Latin word “abbreviare,” which means “to shorten.”

While the word “abbreviated” may seem long, it accurately describes the process it represents. It’s interesting to note that sometimes, longer words are used to describe shorter concepts, like “antidisestablishmentarianism,” which describes opposition to the disestablishment of the Church of England.

I hope that answers your question!

It is complete, at least from training data weights. What can make that seem better is that it is using existing context to react to and update answers to new questions. So it’s a bit like it is fed not only the most recent question, but also all the previous questions and answers it has given - that ‘look back prompt’ makes it seem like it learns from interacting with it.

GPT-4 has a big step of ‘plug-ins’ and it’s worth having a quick whizz though the demos here - ChatGPT plugins. That allows it to use its trained data in combination with other sources - so you can then get ‘live’ answers back that are beyond what it was trained on, e.g. ‘Give me the hockey scores and then let me know the color of the hair of the scorers’ would called out to the NHL or News Feed plugins for the live scores, but then rely on trained data to go look up hair color as reference data it has.

The plugins allow GPT to effectively be a better Google, and is something that Bing is showing with its GPT-4 based bot - the combination of trained data and live data put together. I mean what could possibly go wrong with hooking it up to the internet?

One future business model of a GPT plugin like this is ‘plugin ranking’. Google makes money from showing ads, and getting business to bid on ‘adwords’ to help increase their chances of getting business. If you are a plumber in Chicago then you can pay to get a higher ranking. A GPT could also do this for ‘domain data’ through plugins - which live data to bring in becomes a paid brokerage service the GPT could use. If you are booking a vacation and the Expedia plugin gives you up to data costs/choices, then how much would Kayak pay to be used instead. In summary, money.

Also wheels, it’s talking about the Discourse UI of about 2021 September (when it was trained). It has changed since then. We’d have to enable the GPT-4 browser plugin for it to look up newer info than that.

It is flawless. As good as its English, and (I reckon) it’s swahili.

It made an interesting error in that it read “gemaakt” as the german would have said “gemacht” The german “gemacht” is both making and doing, yeh? Dutch ‘gemaakt’ never implies doing, but the robot took that meaning anyway.

But is that really an error? Or is it a proper amount of fuzziness to its interpretation, because the kid was more than happy with that reply.

A bit verbose perhaps but, thanks.

You’re welcome, @jross. I apologize if my explanation was a bit verbose. As an AI language model, I try my best to provide thorough and informative answers to questions. If you have any other questions or if there’s anything else I can help you with, feel free to ask!

This reminds me of the kids first puppy.

Our puppy didn’t know any Latin, so that’s pretty cool.

I just went a couple rounds of philosophy with bing. It’s amazing. And scary. But also delightful.

Understand @fearlessfrog, I am unable to find the list using my mobile phone. I seem to recall having the same issue in the past when using my mobile phone but when I switched to a desktop the list was where I expected it.

It looks like you shared your first impressions of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Is there anything else I can help you with?

I think @wheelsup_cavu meant the mudspike forums and not just the first one you found that is about flight sims.

I want the link to the first post I made in the Mudspike forums.

@hal could you bait @Discobot into an argument using his fortune telling feature. All in fun

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help.
