VR News: HP Reverb - Second Gen headsets are on the way

Best story yet! LMAO

Interesting to see the undersampling being useful, as in still clearer than all the other headsets while still not running a native resolution.

So actual signs of life in the HP Store. Looks like the UK is leading the way on this one, available for order incredibly.

I want it but can’t afford it. One of you lot has to go first for this one.

Still interested to see some sim fan’s detailed Valve Index reviews as well, just to complete the ā€˜New VR Spring Trifecta’ but it does seem like the Reverb has the pure pixels I would like. If the Index’s main feature is 120 or 144 Hz refresh rate, then for sims that ain’t gonna fly (or rather, it will more like 60 fps instead).

I’d be happy to go first. Anyone seen one laying around?

I think today I’m going to roll back the 1903 update. If I thought a fix was in the wings, I’d wait, but I think I’ll just do the windows update rollback.

Yep, Microsoft confirmed that 1903 broke WMR rendering, so to get that 2.0 render resolution you’ll need to go back. For me, it was pretty quick, and the rollback didn’t take long.

It’s really curious that the reviewer insists on a solid 60 fps in all the sims, to the extent that he will downsample the display resolution and refresh rate to 60 Hz to achieve that. It’s an interesting way to do it, but I think that’s quite unusual. Normally I see a lot more use of setting a native resolution (say 180% SS in the Reverb’s case in SteamVR) and then staying at 90 Hz, but letting reprojection be used. A lot of us are getting used to DCS and X-Plane at a reprojected 45 fps (or 40 fps for the Rift S’s) so to see that ā€˜It must be 60 fps’ approach was an interesting thing to see.

What’s the difference?

Pro version has a leather face strap while the home version is regular foam I believe.

That’s correct, and an additional backpack PC type connector or something for the cable.

Well, we’ll probably already know everything about how simmers feel about the Reverb by the time I get mine. Ship dates aren’t until June 18 for the United States…so it will be a bit of a wait…
