Also with the base IL2 games you also get the basic tank commander free, with a couple of tanks you can drive, which also looks great in VR
Do you have a link for this?
https://il2sturmovik.com/ its on the home page. Add up all the standard packages its like 55.
Take care and stay safe
That is not the way I see it.
If you get the standard editions of Bodenplatte, Kuban, Moscow, and Stalingrad, its 57,49. Flying Circus is 39,99 and on top of that is Normandy at 79,99 so that would be 177,47 on sale at this time.
Is that only on IL2 or is it also on Steam?
Thank you very much and the same to You.
My heart wants the Gazelle because I have time in it (1 hour as P2, 300+ as non qualified observer). Lots as a passenger. As a Chickenhawk reader I want the Huey. As a reader of Low Level Hell" I want the OH58. Mi8 seems to have more campaigns. Does the Hip require you to think in Russian? IE fly in meters etc.
From the IL2 home you can get Flying Circus as a standalone for $40. I have always admired the Sopwith Dolphin after reading the “Bandy Papers”.
I think its any of then except flying circus, you get the panzer 3, and a t34, that are driveable, and if anyone else has the full tank commander dlc, you can jump in and man any of the postions in their tank.
Ah the sopworth dolphin… the plane of many guns … ![]()
the Hip is definitely a russian bird, it has several, shall we say unique qualities. especailly the stabilisation system… which will turn off at the drop of a hat, or rpm … ![]()
The Hip is metric, yes - but in practice you mostly fly it via outside cockpit cues anyway so i don’t think the units matter hugely.
The cockpit layout is a bit to take in at first but it looks worse than it is - my “sim-light” version of startup (no system checks etc.) only takes 2 minutes or so.
There’s a good number of campaigns. Spring Tension, Oilfields (civilian campaign), The Border, The Crew Pt 1, Memory of A Hero (Ka-50 & Hip)…I’ve flown her a lot this year and I still have heaps of campaign play left.
She flies really nicely once you get used to her. Gentle nudge of the cyclic, a touch of pedal and a retrim and she goes exactly where you intended, almost like she reads your thoughts.
Just don’t let the rate of descent run away from you below 50kph IAS or you become a passenger on a VRS Airlines flight right quick ![]()
You forgot to add, treat the tail as if its trying to escape.
Personally I think DCS WW2 aircraft are outstanding. Where the experience is a bit lacking is the actual combat element. There is no better simulated Spitfire than the DCS Mk IX in VR. It almost brought a tear to my eye the first time I flew it.
IL2 BoX aircraft are great, don’t get me wrong, but the strength and focus of that sim is the combat rather than the aircraft themselves.
With the helicopters are rudder pedals required or can the ‘twist’ of the stick simulate them ok?
I bet you can manage with a twisty stick, but pedals are the preferred method.
Thats a really interesting question @Scoop. I’ve only flown them using pedals so not qualified to comment. But the amount of pedal usage in the Hip suggests it may be a struggle but im sure you would get used to it? Maybe?
I get leg ache flying choppers (hip mostly) for more than an hour as well while i think of it
(That should of read THE Mi-8 mostly… not hip. Confusing, sorry?)
Hip, Hind, Hokum, Hook…
