Oh ya, he’s a 27 club member isn’t he! I was totally into Nirvana back in the 90’s and an old girlfriend of mine gave me a “Nirvana: MTV Unplugged in New York” CD for my birthday. Such a thoughtful gift! That’s when I fell head over heels in love with Nirvana! That album is a masterpiece …
I picked up the VHS video tape as well. Loved his soft spoken dry wit. There are two music video’s I love to tell people to watch … “Nirvana: MTV Unplugged in New York”, “Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same” (also filmed in New York) and to a lesser extent, “Nirvana: Live! Tonight! Sold Out!”. I’m into “The Beatles: Get Back” right now … highly recommended. I think Kurt was a big Lennon fan.
Going with the Nirvana theme. This one is special as the first time we heard it was coming back from my wife’s first chemo session. The chorus says it all. It was 12 months of hell, then she went to Heaven…
Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Jimi Hendrix… The list goes on and on, and I missed all of them.
I was too young, and that era was/is gone.
But now, over the years, looking back, I see these people in their heyday and look at the concerts, and its electric then in a way I’ve never really seen in person.
Stevie Nicks… She’s almost creepy/spooky sometimes, and who sounds like that?! Like Janis Joplin, you watch, and they seem almost like they are having some sort of religious experience up there.
Was it the drugs?
Whatever… It can make your hair stand on end, sometimes, and I just don’t get that from modern artists. Something raw and powerful is missing…
Just found these guys a few days ago and been eating it up. Lots of psychedelic fuzz over a tight rhythm section baby.
From Spotify:
Naxatras is a hard psychedelic rock band from Greece. They play a warm psychedelia full of fat grooves, dreamy melodies, heavy riffs and trippy guitar solos all with the vintage touch of the 70’s. They have been playing and developing their sound since 2012. In 2015, they recorded their first full-length album at Magnetic Fidelity with Jesus I. Agnew as their sound engineer. Only analog equipment was used in the recording/mixing/mastering stages of the album. All the songs in the record were performed entirely live during just one day. “Naxatras”, which was released in 2015, became one of the best selling releases of the genre and has received wide critical acclaim. In 2016, they released their second full-length album “II” as well as an EP. In 2017, they released the single “All the Stars Collide Into a Single Ray” and recorded their third full-length album, using similar fully analog and live techniques. Their third album “III” was released in 2018. For their fourth endeavour, Naxatras recruited multi-instrumentalist Pantelis Kargas for the keyboards and synthesizers. The artwork is a creation of longtime collaborator and friend, Chris RW, who’s artistic vision accompanied all of their albums. “IV” was on the 25th of February, 2022. The band has developed a reputation for high-energy live performances, combining elements of psychedelic/progressive rock, stoner, funk, jazz and eastern music with a trippy video wall to accomplish full stimulation of the senses.
