I never thought I’d defend that government of yours, but… it isn’t really their fault. At least not for the most part.
Its private companies that have grown supranational that makes this happen. Its weak government, not able to anything about it.
You can legislate against profiteering and also you can lower the tremendous amount of tax charged on the litre.
Its ABSOLUTELY the fault of the government.
The government makes between 80-90P per litre and have not offered to drop the rate of VAT or tax on it to help british hauliers. We are already cut to the bone on rates which havent had a significant rise since the early 2000’s, costs keep going up and there is no help given by the government despite repeated threats of parking up and 3 days weeks for hauliers. It is absolutely NOT the fault of anyone else but the Conservative government and its fundamental lack of understanding of the dire state of haulage in the UK and the neglect it has suffered. We are facing the single biggest crisis since the 70’s in this country and to say anything else is WRONG. To defend the governments lack of a plan and total inaction on this shows a total and complete failure of understanding of both the severity of the problem and the knock on effect to the consumer.
I was paying that in 2007 in OC, so adjusted for inflation, it’s not as bad as it could be. Not great, but could be worse.
I can believe you paid $70 some dollars total for a fill-up depending on the vehicles tank size but almost $6.00 a gallon for unleaded regular in 2007 sure does not sound right. At that time I had a dual tank Ford F150 and that could easily top $100 if I ran both tanks dry. Lol, I made sure to only use that sucker whenever absolutely necessary or to burn off the old gas.

Catch owt?
I’ve never actually fished for flounder- I’ve only ever gigged for them.
Man oh man, I’m 55 and you chipwich’s look 10 years younger than me LOL!
What the heck is in the drinking water where you guys live? ![]()
In the Solway estuary they use spears. Sometimes mounted on ponies.
I’ve gigged flounder, usually at night at low tide, but I’m sleeping by then now. Much enjoy trolling, sacrificing a minnow or three, with a cooler of cold lager. Good conversation with friends and family, enjoying the view of salt marshes and swimming from sandbars when it gets too hot.
When I was getting my Open Water Dive cert in San Diego, we were doing a dive about a hundred feet or so off La Jolla beach.
The bottom was perfectly flat sand. Completely featureless…until a Halibut (cousin of the Flounder) the size of a bathroom rug took off like a torpedo from about a foot below me.
Scared the #%^* out of me! ![]()
My mum is an advanced diving instructor (training police search and rescue divers etc)and she has some stories from the deep that make my toes genuinely curl in fright
HOLY WOW!
When we meet i want to know as many as possible of those!
Oh the world we are in when we now say THAT is cheap! ![]()
I swear to god you’re absolutely amazing at this game…
You could probably even make me look good!
