Where Are You Photos [2024]

I hate to say this, but it isn’t just a Northern Hemisphere problem… Happens all the bloody time.

I wish I could say to these people “FFS your car is not going to get lonely while you are away”

Time again for one of those West Coast jaunts. It was a funny route today. It wasn’t so much a swim against the jetstream as much as it was a swim against my past. Funny, I don’t know if this one belongs in the mental health thread or this one.

Today we flew down to Georgia. When we have nurses, patients, and passengers on board we don’t really have the range to make nonstop or even single stop trips to the West Coast. So today we would drop into Tulsa Oklahoma for gas… Followed by another stop into Albuquerque for a second splash. From there ranged out to California… Usually when we go to the area we went to we would drop into San Jose… But today was an unusual stop into Moffett Field.

The flight was a trip down memory lane. Flagstaff. Meteor Crater. Winslow. Humphrey’s Peak. The Grand Canyon. Las Vegas. Mount Charleston. Death Valley. Telescope Peak. The Sierras. Yosemite. Among those dozens of hikes. Campgrounds. Suffering on the sides of mountains. Triumphs on summits. Failures just shy of summits. So many of them with my ex-wife. Many of them with my son…in his early years.

Then there are the things beyond or at least different than nostalgia. Looking down at the dry lake beds to which my heroes growing up glided in their exotic aircraft. X-15 emergency landing lakebeds. Off to my right…we took an off course vector from ATC because NTTR was active. I swear I could hear Wag’s voice in my headset…setting up some scenario…some objective.

The blimp hangars at Moffett are impressive. I’ve seen them from the air on my flights into San Jose… But had never seen them up close. They are indeed massive. I could also see retired P3s and some exotic aircraft on the NASA ramp.

We will head back east tomorrow morning. And I will hope for cloudless skies…but sometimes I wish for clouds the entire way. As If not seeing the places tied to so many memories woukd keep me from being so sad…

Yeah… Should’ve been in the mental health thread. :face_holding_back_tears:

Glad that you posted it here Chris, which I guess might be considered some sort of healing. Many more memories yet to be created my friend.

Hey, didn’t one of those blimp hangars burn up recently, or was that somewhere else?

That hanger was in Tustin.

A formation of Harvards flew low right over my house as part of the Anzac Day celebrations.

I excitedly fumbled my phone out. My wife was gardening. I asked her what she thought about the show. She had not looked up.:neutral_face:

Today I celebrated ANZAC day and honoured all my current serving brothers and sisters by doing what they wish they could have done… I had a sleep in

A few from the zoo last week, got surprisingly hot that day - luckily we got there early enough to see some critters before they all hid in the shade

the ear on this little guy, too human, right?! Freaked me out a bit.

After an hour or so the sun hit, so there was a lot of this kind of thing.

My eldest daughter was having trouble sleeping last night. She came and complained that her room in the loft was too hot but she couldn’t reach the windows. So up I went to open it for her and this sight hit my sleepy eyes and I thought “I’ll get a photo of that” :
