I am pretty sure that’s true for some of them!

Made the mistake of answering my phone on my day off…long story short- 8PM start of an organ procurement that will have me out until 6AM in miserable weather. As usual though…keeping it in perspective- someone else is having a far worse night than me.

Innsbruck airport - waiting for the flight home, watching the formation snow ploughs keep the runway and apron clear.

But without you answering that phone it may well have been a heck of a lot worse.

It’s really simple, a 16 key input and a 8 digit display unit that communicates with either DCS or X-plane in a few different ways.

The code is pretty much done, I only need to figure out what exactly DCS-BIOS is sending me. What I am now designing is the housing for this unit.

The program flow is quite simple too:

X-plane or DCS > UDP data stream > Python application running on the host computer or a networked computer(laptop for example) > Pyfirmata protocol uploaded to an arduino > Arduino talks to the 1638 chip.

I think the total costs of this will be about 40 euro’s depending on the housing and parts. It is an open source project so anyone at home can play along. Everything will be off the shelf or on order made parts.

Got any other questions?

Visited Auckland Museum of Transportation and Technology today. Let’s play name the planes - start with an easy warm up round (bonus points if you can name the white/yellow GA plane in the foreground) :

My friend flies them at duxford on air show days and I’ve yet to take him up on the offer of a trial flight. Beautiful planes
