Dang…that looks delicious…
i wonder how long until release. it seemed like two weeks at the start of this thread…
I think the current moods seem to be swaying to it being a bit earlier than expected. I sort of thought it might be about Spring next year, given the issue of mission compatibility plus the desire to update stuff like the clouds etc at the same time as the old map.
I would guess we’d have something like this next:
- 1.5 & 1.5 open beta for update testings
- 2.5 open alpha, where the Caucasus is added as the base map (alongside NTTR, Normandy as modules).
The day that 1.5 is turned off is a huge deal (and maybe it will hang around as a ‘legacy release’ for a while) but then all new effort switches to the new 2.5, 2.6 etc. going onwards.
There will be drinking across the community, and I’m sure the Vodka consumption in the 24 hours after at ED headquarters will spike dramatically…!
Who are we kidding there will be people running a pentium 4 complaining that they have no version of dcs to run on low graphics.
Not a graphics fetishist as y’all know, but I admit those sure look cool.
I’m calling it now - DCS Farm Sim 2020…!
Well, call me a negative nancy but i hope this increased communication is here because things are really moving forward and not because their hand is being forced by 1C/777 and they fear their player base jumping ship to other titles.
Looking at those winterpics I call DCS Ski Sim 2019.
Does it really matter, why?
If increased competition leads to increased communication, that’s a good thing, isn’t it?
1C/777 have always been good at communicating with their customers on a regular basis. They have a good track record for delivering the goods on time as well.
But the way I see it, IL-2 is not a competing sim to DCS: WWII, per se… DCS is considered, by many, to be too advanced in that it has clickable cockpits and very detailed systems. This crowd probably won’t come to DCS no matter what. Likewise, many DCS followers find IL-2 lacking in the same area. I believe there will be room for both sims, and if they push each other forward, the better off we flightsimmers are. I’ll continue to support both IL-2 and DCS.
1C/777 isn’t really a competitor though, both have a very different approach to how simulations are made and what to achieve.
Of course it matters, i’d rather have 2.5 sooner than later.
That’s how you two see it (me too btw., which is why i’m spoilt for the whole IL-2 franchise), but there are people who don’t quite see it this way.
Yup, there’s a name for that. It’s called “opinions”.
They are mostly all valid albeit might not represent the one truth.
Me too!
I must have misunderstood your earlier post then…
If, and I say if, 1C/777 entering the western front actually is forcing ED to accelerate the unified release, this is all good
Don’t think this is the case though but I could be wrong
The point is that there are users that ED and 1C/777 compete over. It might not be you or me, but they are there. Their preference being closer to or further from “a truth” has nothing to do with it.
Uh, what?
No, really- I didn’t get that. English is not my first language.
I can reassure you, that is just about the end to each and every conversation between me and the gf that starts with her asking me how my day at work was.
Sometimes i forget to turn off the encryption in my speech module.
