Oh my! That looks like the rabbit hole from hell!

I started in silent hunter 5 then used X plane to head to Christmas island although I only got as far as Spain before real life intervened but I did stock up on all the scenery packs so it was a pretty flight

Write-in ballot for CVN 70 to Dubai Int’l.

I wasn’t aware of this one - that’ll be a sure download for me! Thank you!

I should be able to knock this out in a week in the Bell 407, right? (A few of the legs are too long without cheating on the gas.)

Again, having never done this before. Have you all ever used VATSIM for this? Posting screenshots and stories is fun. But wouldn’t it be a nice finish for us all to fly in on a particular day using our sim of choice on a common frequency?

Never used VATSIM before…

I used it years ago just to try out some new x-plane functionality (Foreflight map support). It is taken pretty seriously in some parts of the world. I did a few flights in Europe and was surprised at the quality and accuracy of some of the obviously very young participants. The ATC members seemed to be mostly aspiring or currently training controllers. I got politely scolded for using “1200” instead of “2000” for a VFR squawk code. And later I got severely scolded for violating Class B airspace. If you go to the website you’d be forgiven for thinking VATSIM is a department within the UN. They are a bit full of themselves. So, yeah, it’s not for everybody. But in the case of the south pacific there’d just be us.

Sounds like fun being scolded by a pretend controller… lol. Some people take their hobbies (and themselves) far too seriously!

My favorite part of these flights. Studying the route and trying to figure out if I have the range…(I haven’t settled on an aircraft yet…but I have something in mind…and it would require conditions to be near optimal)…

It does sound strange to me too, but let’s not forget that the preparation some of us put into our flights, the cold start procedures we memorize, and the general desire to something realistic that we have, leads to us appearing much the same to a general audience…

Something with a pot and a kettle…

PS I had to check that one, I knew it as a Dutch idiom but apparently also appears in English. Link to wiki for more info

Oh yes, especially when they scold you for not being able to land whilst they’ve kept you way high coming into zurich. Buddy, there’s only so much I can do in a fokker 28 when I am at 6000 whilst I should have been at <1500ft…

Although this was at IVAO, not much better I suppose. I preferred flying in the Caribbean and speaking to controllers from the other side of the world! That was kinda fun!

I get it, up to a point. I sim for the fun of it, so I don’t take things too seriously. Following procedure and lengthy checklists is something I do at work (which possibly gives me different priorities when it comes to play time). I wouldn’t find it at all entertaining to be scolded by a pretend controller though, and I might end up saying something that would make me look like an arrogant jerk. .

You get similar situations in real life too. We refer to it as being “slam dunked”, ie being kept high to the point of it becoming very challenging/damned near impossible to get back on profile.

The worst cases go something like “N12345 expedite descent to 3000 ft, slow to 170 Knots” Jets don’t slow up well while in an expedited descent!

Let me just deploy all possible drag surfaces and risk damage! Sounds like a fine and dandy plan!
