Exactly!
Have you met @smokinhole’s russian?
She’s…nice!
Aircraft carrier for refuel and maintenance!
I am a thousand miles in with tonight’s overnight at Pickle Lake, CA. At this rate I might beat some of you! My entire trip will be at 130 knots and 350 NM legs, and real time.
Sweet…! I will probably start my journey in the next week or so because I have a “plan”…(oh dear)…
I suppose I need to vote in the poll too. I figure I’ll leave it up another week in case we have some drive-by interest from other forums or social media locations…
I am leaving today! been scouting out NZ for the past few days. All I can say is, WHAT A VIEW.
Ooh ooh. Piccies? Pleeeeease?
Soon
For those of us flying from New Zealand and have XP-11:
Seriously, New Zealand is so gorgeous in X-plane… GO THEREEEE
Actually, if it was a Polynesian to English transliteration it would be something Fah -Ah -ay.
Not sure how the French do it.
I lived in Hawaii for 2 years. When the missionaries showed up in the 1800s, among other things, they went about transliterating Hawaiian to English. In doing so, they simply used the english letter sounds directly. So when you see Makalapa (where I worked) it sounds just like it is spelled, saying every letter sound. So phonetically Ma-Ka-La-Pa.
Then there was the Likelike Highway. In english we are used to the silent “e”, which would make it “Like-Like”…but not in Hawaiian transliterations, using every letter sound it is
Lee-key-Lee Lee-key (or Leeky-Leeky).
I fired up X plane after a long absense in preparation for this event. It seems the mouse is borked in the latest beta now using VR. Can anyone confirm this and is there a workaround
Looks like we couldn’t be any more divided in terms of choosing a destination… So how about a little rat race? Which destination has been reached by the most people. Which team did the most NM. which people visited multiple or all destinations. That sort of thing maybe.
Should atleast allow for some more diverse screenies!
Cib. Hit “Esc”. Then assign keys or button(s) to “mouse pointer on and off”. (That’s not the wording). Sometimes my only workaround is to click “Disable VR”, turn mouse pointer on and resume VR.
That is an epic virtual voyage you have made there! Have there been many other circumnavigations made on Sailaway to your knowledge?
Something I just learned from real world sailing.
Q. What do you call it when two sail boats happen to meet on the water?
A. The start of a race.
…its actually kind of true.
The Horn looks downright pleasant in that screenshot. Maybe I’ll plan a vacation down there. I bet June is lovely.
Sooo… who won?
It was cold. Very, very cold.
No the poll on where everyone is going for this year’s Christmas Flight.
X-Plane scenery & aircraft developers.
OK - with a near dead heat for the three entrants, I’ve decided to throw a wildcard out there and make a Mudspike Christmas Flight Board of Directors Planning Committee (MCFBDPC) executive decision and choose a location based on the average of the three poll locations that still seems to fit with the theme. Therefore, I’d like to announce that the 2018 Mudspike Christmas Flight destination will be…
Located somewhat in the middle of the initial three offerings, Pago Pago/Tafuna (NSTU) is an international airport with a 10,000’ runway for those flying heavy aircraft in from distant locations, and a smaller 3,800’ runway for smaller aircraft. With a collocated VOR, the destination should be easy to find.
Recommended scenery packages
Fortunately, we have both payware and freeware scenery available for NSTU available for FSX and P3D. I’ll start with the exotic (but expensive) NSTU Pago Pago International scenery by ORBX. The nice thing about this scenery is that you not only get NSTU, but you get seventeen islands, and seven other airports nearby to explore.
For those looking for a freeware option, you can find some nice NSTU scenery on FlightSim.com: HERE
For our X-Plane users, Cami De Bellis has a nice version of NSTU here:
I hope everyone is OK with the destination change - if not, I’m open to a runoff between the two top contenders instead of the “middle of the triangle” approach. Whatever the case, I look forward to seeing all of you in the South Pacific. I think I will explore the ORBX nearby airports on my way if I can pigeonhole my ride into some of those short strips. I will soon post up an official announcement page and a link to the official AAR page.
I think I will start my journey in mid November, perhaps just before Thanksgiving since I have a bit of a “plan”…
Enjoy the flight!
Cool! I hope I will have finished my graduation project somewhat early in December, expect a crazy story from me to justify my lazy shortcuts/skips/aircraft changes, but a little later than usual.
