8gb to 16gb RAM

Would I notice a difference? I currently have 4x2gb modules, i7 920 and a GTX 960 and was thinking about buying 2x8gb modules but wondered if I’ll see any difference or should I not bother?

I would say definitely yes.

Yes, no doubt about it you would. What kind? DDR3 or 4?

Hell to the yeah. Especially in DCS

That may even make DC’s playable, as 16gb is now the min spec

I can barely work with 8gb on my work computer and that’s just spreadsheets and word processing, really. 16 is min spec now. So yes, do it

Omg I could have found you some sticks. My old 920 had triple Channel and I had to buy 3 x2 gb then upgraded to 3x 4 it made a huge difference now I have the z370 and ddr4

Will having 2 modules cause me problems then?

EDIT: just googled and from old forum posts elsewhere it says no

Which slots should I put the sticks into? See mobo image…

You need to check your mobo manual. It’s usually the blue line and the bottom one for a 2 stick config but it should work with top and third as well. The manual will indicate which is preferred. The 2/4 channels are generally preferred from what I’ve seen because the cpu cooler usually overlaps the first channel a bit so it’s harder to get in out if the cooler is already attached.

Thanks @Rhinosaurus and @tempusmurphy I’d just found it before reading your replies  and it’s:
When enabling Dual Channel mode with two memory
modules, be sure to install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_4 or DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 sockets.

The ram was supposed to arrive yesterday, coming from Germany, but got stuck in Leicestershire… Finally came this morning and as a bonus Amazon are refunding the postage so win win.
Installed it and ran DCS World and fired up a hornet mission and…it runs okay!!! It’s playable!!:grin:

the viper is great and coming along nicely, but I have to admit that I prefer the harrier :uk: (yes I know its the american version we have, but its as close as i can get )

Of course buying the current harrier indirectly funds development of the mighty shar, so there’s that as well.

On the other hand, tomcat is the pinnacle of what DCS is capable of.

On the gripping hand, viper is so zippy and so zappy, it’s just the neatest thing.

The Warthog is the great intro course into digital weapons management and delivery.

The Hornet is the home office of fighter jets.

The JF-17 is when the IT department gets a budget increase, and they are Apple fanboys.
