Ace of Aces

Before computer based flying became a reality on consumer computers, we did our imaginary flying in books.
The Ace of Aces series were basically two books, one for the Germans and one for the Allies, depicting turn based dogfight moves. You called your move and the paper fighter pilots turned to the corresponding page in their respective book.
Graphics were simple…

I have one original and two reproductions from a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

The people behind that crowdfund decided to produce a game, based on the old rules, with added optional rules and new graphics. Naturally I was onboard!

Today, the game arrived!

Larger format beautifully bound books, damage rules and a logg…

This is how the game always looked in my imagination

Old vs. new. My originals at the bottom.

Get your own and let’s play!

Nice, it looks a some kind of Steve Jackson Books kind of game, where you read a book, jumping through pages accordingly with your decisions.

If you like boardgames about dogfights, i recommend you the:

Wings of War series (mainly is ww1 but also exist ww2 expansions)

Wing Leader series (GMT)

Down in Flames (DVG)

Played lot of Air Force and Flight Leader, by Avalon Hill, back in the 80’s and early 90’s.

Played that very often decades ago - a really fun game, albeit the outcome is pretty random. Always waiting for that Fuel Tank Hit - Aircraft Destroyed and Ace Pilot combo in your hand…
