Aginor's weird NFL thread

Fitzmagic worked today!
(And a pretty good defense actually)

Wow, the Eagles and Cowboys are really great sportsmen.
They play just bad enough so their opponents have a chance to win those games, and so they both have a chance to reach the playoffs.
Magnificent!

Congrats Eagles!

I think they are erecting the statue to Boston Scott right now in Philly. And just like that…the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad are the NFC East champs… :man_shrugging:

And the Cowboys have fired Jason Garrett.
Bye Coach!

To be honest I think this might be the right decision.
He is by no means a bad coach (you won’t stay Cowboys coach for nine years if you suck), but he seems to have… kinda run out of steam.
This season’s team consists of great players, there were very few injuries, the offense was among the best in yards, the defense played good, but… they somehow still couldn’t score points or win the important games.

I am not a fan of blaming a coach for everything, but even I think that it might be a motivation problem.

When they were losing the coach just stood on the sideline and seemingly did nothing. No motivation, no screaming, no running around doing… something.
That’s what stood out for me. Sure, I might be unfair to him, maybe he just did did that behind the scenes or just not so obviously, maybe it wasn’t his fault after all.
But he has won two playoff games in nine years. Maybe it is time to change something.

I kinda hope they keep Kellen Moore as OC though. I liked a lot of his playcalling and he is young and motivated.

Damn I was just too tired to watch Football last night, but it seems that both of the wildcard games were pretty entertaining, and in both of them it wasn’t the team I expected that won!
I just watched both review videos. Some great plays in there!

Don’t hate them!
I heard they get stronger from your hate.

…but yeah. I also was a bit relieved…

German commenters always have a good laugh when the Vikings play.

Their #65 (playing guard) is a dude named Pat Elflein.
Elflein means “little elf” in German.
The guy is 6’ 3", 303 lbs which isn’t quite what you imagine when you are thinking of a little elf.

I have to think that Belichick, while raging on the sideline about that 1:45 time runoff (brilliant), was also silently admiring how his own game had been turned against him…

Yeah that was impressive.

Another unexpected result!

Now… if there is a fourth one then people can break out their dog masks again!

Edit: I hope Wentz will be back. Or McCown might become the next playoff surprise.

Alas neither happened. You know, one would think that the whole point behind having a backup QB is that he can jump in, at a moment’s notice (in the playoffs) and be nearly as effective as the primary. To do so, one would also think that, at every practice session, he is running a few plays with the starters. After seeing him fumble the hike 3 times, I don’t think that happened.

Being nearly as effective as the starter is a very rare thing for a backup QB.
Philly fans are spoilt by Nick Foles.

#2 QBs just don’t get as much training as the #1, they usually are used to “simulate” the opponents’ QBs for the defense in training.
I also read that they often know only around a quarter of their team’s playbook.
If the O-line is really strong they have a decent chance but they usually need a second or so longer protection. The Eagles O-line could not provide that extra second against the Seahawks.

And then of course McCown is old (40) and has never been a super great QB to begin with (which is the reason why he played for nine teams and always as a backup QB IIRC).
I was actually surprised how well he did, some of his plays were pretty good and he did move quite well for his age.
But yeah, it just wasn’t enough. Between his ball insecurity and the receivers dropping easy passes it was tough to watch. They were no match for the Seahawks although the defense played solid.

Concur with all your points. … but, how many snaps did he drop? … and a delay of game because somebody said something at the line of scrimmage? That’s just lack of familiarity with his center and offense. Still, as you said, he played well given the circumstances, and made it into the NFL record books.

…and in a way, this worked out for me since I’m also a GB fan.

Yeah. Bummer that Wentz didn’t get a chance to play more than two series. The Clowney hit seemed dirty in slow motion, but at normal speed…hell…I don’t know…it still looks dirty to me, but whatever.

Spilt milk at this point. Glad they were competitive throughout the game. A healthy Eagles would have been something to see this season. At least with Andy Reid and the Chiefs I have someone tied to the Eagles to root for still.
