Aginor's weird NFL thread

I had to listen to the game last night on 600AM on the ADF receiver. Old school sports fan…

Eagles fans won’t want to hear it, but they’ve had probably some of the better back ups year-in and year-out since their current head coach was replaced as the starting QB there. Oh things didn’t exactly work out when they were in place as the starter for a long stretch, but some of those names were Koy Detmer, AJ Feely, Jeff Garcia, Kevin Kolb, Mike Vick, Foles.

There’s a reason a few up there got big contracts elsewhere after just being a back-up (even if they eventually turned into a pumpkin). Josh Mcknown was the best guy you could get in Philly that could be competent, had experience, possibly win you a game, yet wouldn’t lead to a million calls to WMMR saying they should replace Wentz with him like they did with nearly every name up there I listed before.

Been offline for a wee bit, did Brady mention anything about retiring?

Wheels

Not really.
Like every year there are speculations but as far as I know his statements sound pretty much the same as in the years before:

He doesn’t know how the future looks right now, but ad long as he can play well he wants to stay.

I hav said that doing the Vick & Kolb seasons the Eagles had a chance to do something truly revolutionary, but that Andy Reid was just too unimaginative to take advantage of it. Namely they essentially had two starting QBs with drastically different playing styles. Imagine the fits it would have given to defenses had he selectively interchanged them on an offensive drive. A few downs with Kevin then, Mike come is for a few then back to Kevin for a down or two and then…well by then you are in the end zone.

That kind of thing is done by the Saints to some effect.
Their all purpose weapon Taysom Hill (QB, holder, TE, special teams gunner and returner, sometimes even playing from the FB position) is used for designed QB runs, trick plays, wildcat shenanigans and so on, but also for passing now and then.
Suddenly Brees leaves the field, Hill comes in as QB, and they run a dramatically different play.

Btw I don’t know what to think of the announced new Cowboys coaches yet.

Both McCarthy and Nolan are old coaches with a lot of experience, and have had some successes in their careers, but IMO the defense worked fine as it was, and I am not sure if McCarthy is the coach the Cowboys need. I had expected someone… younger, more dynamic.
In his last year as Packers coach McCarthy seemed to lose steam and more often than not clash with Aaron Rodgers. Maybe if he keeps Kellen Moore as OC that will do the job to balance him out.

We will see I guess.

Thanks Aginor. Wonder if the Pats will end up trading him?

Wheels

I doubt it.
It isn’t impossible but I think he would rather end his career.
He has played all of his career there.

But then… there were other old QBs who did something similar, so… maybe?

So…Tua going to end up in Miami??

An interesting question!
I was a bit surprised about him planning to get drafted this year. Didn’t he have a severe hip injury?
Are there NFL teams that are desperate enough to risk taking him?

Hmmm maybe.

The Browns. Always the Browns.

God I hope not. He’s broken. Dolphins have enough draft picks (after trading most of their talent) that they can build a real team - but, that’s crazy talk.

At least I’m not a Giant’s fan. Hiring the Patriot’s WR coach as head coach, and possibly Garret as offensive coordinator???

I like the Carolina Panther’s decision on hiring Rhule (from Baylor) as HC.

And I might watch more of the Redskins next year. Always liked Riverboat Ron, and his choice of Jack Rio for defensive coordinator is solid IMHO.

Anyway, really looking forward to a SuperBowl game without the patriots!

ps just heard on the news that the RedSox are under investigation for spying on their opponents.
Did they hire Bill as a consultant?

Same here, I was going to do so in secret, but since you were brave enough to say you were planning on watching more Redskins games then I guess I can admit that is my plan too. Of course this will be the year none are on here.

I also just read that the Cowboys are hoping to hire John Fassel for their special teams.

IMO that guy is brilliant. The Rams have had really good special teams in the last few years.

So about McKnown…

McCown later revealed that the hamstring tore off the bone. He’ll need surgery and faces a six-month recovery, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

That was during the game and he kept playing.

Yeah I just read it. 2nd quarter apparently.
That’s pretty impressive!

It’s not fair…but it makes Wentz look even more glass-like. And that is not fair…but people will say it…
