Still the only running back to get a roughing penalty…for hurting the defensive back!
The Perfect Backfield loses one of its own. ![]()

I completely understand Jim, Larry (Csonka), & Paul’s (Warfield) reasoning for jumping to the WFL but I will never forget what might have been if that league had never been formed. Imo they could have been the first 4 time Superbowl champions.
Just saw this A Football Life episode a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah…it was a weird time to live in the US…I had a big poster of Larry Csonka running through Redskin blockers from what ever Super Bowl that was. He was my hero…and then this strange WFL that played in the summer?
A neighborhood friend of mine went to a game…the Philadelphia Stars? Evidently there were some fights in the stands that were more interesting than the game, as that was all anybody talked about.
That was Superbowl VII. It was the game that capped their perfect season.
Same here. Dad knew this so the Dolphins were the only team he let me stay up late to watch the entire game on Monday Night Football. In the Midwest the game almost always ran until some time after 11 pm and if the game went into Overtime it could end up being after midnight.

It about killed Shula when those guys left…
Csonka was cool though. Actually saw him at his bar when I lived down there.
He’s a big guy.
Their leaving was Joe Robbie’s fault. Had he not been so tight with the purse strings they might have stayed? Of course Joe was not the only owner notorious for being tight with the players salaries, especially in that era of football.
A really telling stat that I saw today about Shula’s 25 year reign at Miami is that in the 25 years that he coached there they only had TWO losing seasons, which I already knew, and were in the Playoffs 16 of those 25; including his very first year as head coach and 4 of the last 6 of his coaching career. In the 24 seasons since he was retired due to public pressure over his lack of winning another Superbowl after 1973 they have had ELEVEN losing seasons and three 8-8 seasons and only been in the Playoff 7 times. Of those 7 Playoff appearances 5 of them were in the first 6 years after Shula was retired. So basically it took 6 years to wreck the team he had built in those 25 years as head coach and turn it into the perennial loser we have today.

He was referred to as “Joe Rob-Me” in South Florida
Cam Newton signs a one year contract with the Patriots. Oh man…talk about the weight of expectation…wow… Good luck Cam. I’m rooting for a Tampa Bay vs. Patriots Superbowl now…
I really like Cam. He was great for the Panthers when healthy.
Was secretly hoping the Redskins would pick him up.
Now, as a Dolfan, I have to hate him.
As an out of the loop Eagles fan, I’m not sure what I should be rooting for or against these days. I mean, it’s genetic to root against Dallas of course (sorry @Aginor)…but the rest of the division I’m sorta…meh about.
@dicebot fortune
Will football have a full 16 game regular season and a complete round of playoffs this season?

Very doubtful
They should play 4 teams simultaneously on the same field at the same time and halve the season. ![]()
Hmmm… the new Cowboys team looks comparatively promising so I would like to see a whole regular season, but I kinda doubt it will happen.
As for the news: some fun stuff happening there, with Cam Newton joining the Patriots, Brady with the Bucs, a few very cool rookies and so on.
Sadly the HOF game was cancelled already. I was looking forward to it.
As for who to root for (except America’s Team of course)… I think I will go for some underdogs again. Browns and Dolphins come to mind. ![]()
I’m still very, very salty about him being let go, and how he was let go.
I never thought I’d ever say this, and I kinda hate that I’m saying this, but I hope the Pats win the Super Bowl with him.
Wish you would have put a warning on your post… it triggered my gag reflex.
There’s been a lot of talk among friends of mine about whether our absolute hatred of the Pats is due to Tom Brady, New England’s fans, Bellichick, or some combination thereof. Jury’s still out for me on that one.
Well, except for the NE fans. Them, I know that I really, really can’t stand.
For me, it’s always the way the Patriots play. One step away from illegal, and I blame Bellicheck for that.
He’s always bending the rules to his advantage. If you took a drink everytime the Pats used an illegal pick to advance the ball - and got away with it - you’d be passed out by half-time.
Yes, you’re absolutely right on that.
