From the C-130 forum over on ED: “Let the record reflect: the developer strongly supports lapes. “ - That’s from ASC themselves. Right now, I believe you can use TOW to simulate it, but the drag chute doesn’t have a visual model.
From the same thread on ED’s forum:
I was at FT Bragg in the mid-late 90s when we had a C-130 conducting a LAPSE on Sicily DZ when the pilot sunk too low on approach and tagged the ground, breaking the spine of the fuselage. He tried applying full power to escape the trees at the end of the strip, but the load was jammed, so the aircraft and load went into the trees, right in front of the viewing stands. I think one loadmaster survived with 3rd degree burns over the majority of his body. Soldiers killed on the ground as well.
Something else to try @Derbysieger after your exploits with the Bradley and 100mm flak … can we for example drop a tow armed humvee and a crate of tow missiles, could the humvee re-arm at the missile crate
has anyone tried using the dynamic resources at an air base to stage cargo to load… so far i can select the cargo from the list on the lctrl c menu thingy but cant get it to stage
managed to input some legs and make a route. spawned some cargo but it didn’t take it from the dynamic resources of the airfield, so still working on that, also got the tacan and VOR dialled in, still got to try the ILS system… this must be the most complex module yet, and the detail that ASC has gone into is amazing
The short version is you create containers with the available cargo modules (the CDS loads, containers, ammo pallets, etc) and then you add the resource from the airbase/warehouse into the container. Currently there is a bug where the resource doesn’t add weight to the container. So loading a CDS load at 882lbs, then adding say 5000lbs of jet fuel to it, will still only register in game as 882lbs.
There is a lot on the logistics front they are still getting working, but in general the flow will be:
Spawn container
Load container into cargo hold
Fill with resource
Deliver
Do you mean the pallet of whatever (ie the container) won’t stage into the cargo hold, or the resource won’t stage into the container (e.g. where are my MK-82s)?
If you go to the resources tab on the c130 menu you can see what is currently in the inventory of the airfield but you can’t seem to spawn that as a crate to stage …
I set the resources at the airfield to dynamic, then emptied all of the cargos there to zero except for bgm tow missiles at 100
Then on c130 cargo menu you can see there are 100 tow missiles there and select them, but you can’t seem seem to stage them for loading
Right you have to spawn a container, then load the resource into it. It kinda makes sense, in that in the real world you don’t just pile loose missiles on the floor, you package them up and that packaging container determines how much cargo you can carry.
For example:
Using the cargo menu spawn a CDS crate in the cargo hold.
Select the CDS crate, and then select add resource from its menu (I think that’s it, doing this off of memory)
It’ll pop up a submenu that will list the available resources to load into the container, the quantity it can hold is based on the volume of the resource. On the bottom left of the submenu is the +/- to add/remove resources from the container. Use them to add your resource.
Once you’ve got the desired (or max allowed) resources in the container, click the load button to secure it in place in the cargo hold.
About to go to bed, so if that doesn’t explain it enough I’ll take some screenshots tomorrow.
The brief bit of testing I did last night it looked like the resource weight was working for everything but jet fuel. Did you find somethings that weren’t adding to the cargo weight total?
Are the individual weights for each items correct, I placed 30 tow missiles in the box and it came out to about 14k lbs which seemed a lot considering each tow weighs about 25 kg according to the encyclopaedia
but was half asleep when I was doing it so will check it again tonight
I messed with it last night, and the issue about resources not being added to weight is still there when you actually load it into the cargo bay, not just stage it.
The cargo containers that ED created have a base weight that would be consistent with being fully loaded. I asked ASC about being able to change that, and it’s an ED issue. Even the CDS loads they created are stuck at the 882lb weight for now for the same reason.
I’d personally like to see a variety of container models to allow for internal and external carriage of different loads, with a weight slider that allows for a setting of dead empty (just the weight of the container itself) to the max allowable load for that container (ie 2200 lbs for a A-22 cargo bag). Then for modules like the C-130J the weight can be dynamically set by the resources loaded by the player or defined in the ME. I’d also like some real-world logistics categories like water and rations that can be loaded or even have a blank category the mission designer can rename (so theoretically you could have a load of the mythical rubber dogs**t). Finally add the ability to put containers in containers, so I can load up 4 pallets of MRE’s on a single 463 master pallet for example to make staging less of a PITA when I want 24 pallets of the same resource.
This logistics brings a whole new face to dcs, imagine if you will trying to keep an airbase or farp stocked with consumables win the middle of a battle, praying that your runways don’t get taken out
On approach to Malmö Sturup, one of my major gripes with DCS is how it handles ILS. It’s almost always dependant on some arbitrary windspeed whether ILS is active or not. Here the localizer is active but no glide slope (RWY35) and for RWY17 the C-130 didn’t let me set the ILS, maybe because I had RWY35 selected in the flight plan and told page, I don’t know, when I manually entered the freq for 17 it always switched to the freq for 35 automatically. ED, for the love of god, leave it always active or at least provide an option in the editor to turn it on and off. This is maddening.
Luckily I didn’t need ILS for the approach since the weather played along nicely and of course the Runway overlay in the HUD is also a great help.
Edit: I just tested it in the editor. I think it’s because UGRA has the ILS identifier set to SMS for both RWY35 and RWY17 at ESMS. Right now you can’t set ILS for RWY17 in the Herc since it will automatically recognise 111.9 as SMS and then switch it to 108.10 which is also SMS, just for RWY35…
