Airspace Around El Paso Closed

The following is a screenshot from Foreflight showing the TFR encompassing the El Paso Class C airspace up to 18000 feet. The airport is closed until February 20. TFRs exist to protect airspace during presidential movement and major events. We may not like them, but they always make sense. This one is a mystery. I cannot recall anything like this since 9/11. So far the government is mum as to why.

News article from El Paso:

>Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso, said her office has been told there’s no imminent threat to El Paso.

I have thoughts about this, but I’m waiting for more information.

If I read the update right El paso is lifted but New Mexico remains.

Intresting…..

Yep. And what makes this interesting is that I have never seen a TFR lifted unless that was part of the plan. Well, sure, VIP movement TFRs cancel if the VIP’s plans change. But other TFRs generally stay. This sort of chaos is just not normal.

Also, even presidential TFRs allow restricted movement, usually requiring a flight plan and a pre-arranged sqwawk. This one was an 18000’ steel wall—suggesting military.

It’s the Daily Mail so take it with a grain of salt.

With the close proximity to Juarez, it doesn’t surprise me that there would many drone incursions related to drug trafficking. Given what we’ve seen in Ukraine, it’s bound to become a major headache for the DEA and law enforcement. In fact, what’s more surprising is that it hasn’t happened sooner.

Drones happen. Nefarious is nefarious, be it Mexican nefariousness, Canadian or homegrown. This makes zero sense.

They’ve been a thing for a while, but this response is very, very different from past methods of intercepting them.

I was having a blood test the other day and the person drawing blood was having a hard time getting into my veins. As she struggled, I looked up and there was a nicely framed item on the wall. It stated, “It is what it is.” Made me chuckle.

Oh, here we go.

Meetings were scheduled over safety impacts, but Pentagon officials wanted to test the technology sooner, stating that U.S. Code 130i requirements governing the protection of certain facilities from unmanned aircraft had been met.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford on Tuesday night decided to close the airspace — without alerting White House, Pentagon or Homeland Security officials, sources said.

Bedford told officials the airspace restrictions would be in place to ensure safety until issues with the War Department could be resolved.

This administration personifies malicious incompetence. Or is it incompetent malice?

Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.
