Amazonās deceptive practices over the buy button is why I quit buying any streaming movies unless they are on sale for 2 or 3 dollars. For the most part I have reverted back to buying the DVD versions to avoid their deceptive games over licencing verses owning the product.

Which is why I love my Kobo, no walled garden & I get to keep books that I buy from their store ![]()
And also why when it comes to Amazon, I have zero problems saying āYar mateyā ![]()
So rather than watching a 20 minute video that Iām assuming could have been 5 minutes, Iām gonna take a guess:
Amazon is pulling down/deleting various software and video products that people purchased? Something, something 90 days?
Pretty much.
The most astonishing thing for me is that folks are finally waking up to the fact that they havenāt actually āownedā any software for over 20 years⦠That, and I am probably in the < 1% of the population that actually reads an EULA or Privacy (lack of) Policy.
Mudspike exists almost exclusively to discuss, decry, praise and scorn products that we āpurchaseā but which we donāt own.
As for books, I do use a Kindle. But Iāve started borrowing ebooks from my library through Libby.
True, but we here at Mudspike are the exception to the rule.
Most people will just toss their old Kindle that Amazon have decided they will longer support and would still work just fine if Amazon hadnāt also bricked it⦠Then buy a new one.
Who was it that P. T. Barnum said was born every minute.
As for ebook readers. Like I said, I am a fan of Kobo. Will play any format, I am yet to buy a title that isnāt DRM free and they donāt care if you buy your books elsewhere.
Very cool. I am no fan of Bozos. I like it when his rockets go toast on the pad. May many more do the same. Amazon could suffer a similar fate tomorrow and the world would be a much better place. But the Kindle was a neat piece of kit when the only other e-readers were Sony and Barns&Nobleāand both sucked. Iām on my 5th. None of the others bricked. The upgrades just kept getting better to the point that it became hard not to fork over $150 given how much I enjoy reading. I mostly read classics which are cheap or free. Or I read current non-fiction when it is available at my library.
I believe the Kobo is used by some of my clubās glider guys as a map/flight computer. They donāt need color or a fast refresh. But they do need a 10+ hour battery. You certainly canāt do THAT with a Kindle!
None of this is to argue against the premise of this thread. This is just yet another way in which plutocrats en*****fy our lives through tech. But I do find the irony funny. (How many times have I bought the same Ka50 helicopter? ![]()
I bought Arma2 via the Amazon digital store quite a few years back. I just went and looked, and itās unavailable now for download.
Time to take a look at what I can do with customer support.
