Played little MP last night, tried out Mike Force and one campaign mission. First time I’ve played a FPS MP online in probably at least a decade. Mike Force took some figuring out, it could be explained better and it is definitely still a WIP. With that said, loading up a slick, setting down in an LZ on a recently cleared objective, and then fighting our way to a downed Cobra, and trying to hold that chunk of elephant grass from a VC assault was pretty cool. If we had been halfway organized, it would have been pretty epic to pull off a TARP mission. As is we got overran but it was a pretty solid fight to take us down.
Also spending some time in the Cobra, as it’s probably as close as I’m going to get to a DCS level Cobra in a sim. Did some mission making to test out the flechette’s effective profiles, and it is brutally effective on any kind of mass of infantry. I need to turn on bullet traces and see if I can see the actual flechette traces. I messed with setting up a few situations similar to those described in “Snake Pilot”
Cool. Another book! Thanks! That mission is awesome. The guy leading us when I played it yesterday was an ace. We finished it without too much difficulty. I will say that I am coming to grips with the helicopter flight model. It’s pretty good, as I remembered it being three years ago when I last played ARMA. The control lag takes an hour or so to get used to. And, as I discovered yesterday, it takes a few minutes to FORGET when you fly something real (if an R22 can be called “real”). I was wrong above. Apparently the PF helicopters do incorporate BI’s full AFM capability.
On the AFM, the planes and helicopters or even the rest of the creators DLC, there is a dedicated feedback section on the main website, https://community.sogpf.com/forums/22-S8-Bugs-amp-Feedback
I guess the experienced pilots from mudspike can provide quite some insight on the AFM and other aspects.
I found a pretty awesome resource for descriptions of Vietnam-era equipment, gear, photos and historical timeline for anyone interested. I’ve always been a history fanatic, but never run across this website before:
Just toyed around with KP Support Cam Lao Nam, a helo centric mission to support AI fellows: Steam Workshop::KP Support Cam Lao Nam
Basically you fly transport/supply/CAS missions to support AI troops taking over sectors. It’s a multiplayer mission.
I tried transport missions in a Huey, but it’s a bit tough to intercept the troops in the open. They love to run through the jungle
This DLC continues to enthrall. That’s an old fuddy-duddy word (along with fuddy-duddy) but it’s too perfect. I’ve been connecting with friends who feel we’ve hit a wall with IL2 and Flying Circus. The last 10 or so hours of gameplay have been the most exhilarating, intense and joyful (yes, joyful!) yet. Take everything else away except X-Plane. I don’t need them anymore.
Enthrall really is the perfect word. It feels like a brand new game to me. I’ve bought it 3 times, now. I’m close to buying it a 4th for another friend.
Watching that reminds me of videos taken by our generation’s boys in the sandbox. Nothing new under the sun! Fallout has it right- “War. War never changes.”
ohhh, new update for PraireFire coming. It’s still in the testing phase and not released. The changelog looks interesting. We’ll be a new map too. Khe Sanh I think it was in Unsung, but more of a beta. I’ll be interested to see how much more fleshed out it is.
The Khe Sanh map in Unsung was created by londo, the Khe Sanh map in S.O.G. Prairie Fire by a different team from SGD. In other words, but for the same topography the maps share nothing. Also note that the Khe Sanh map in the Creators DLC is not necessarily 1:1 with reality.
The new beta/RC whatever has some cool new guns and vehicles.
I’ve been playing Deadzone: Vietnam which is a lot like Far Cry 2 in Arma 3. Having a lot of fun with it when on the road/in hotels, it’s pretty well done and I can play it in small bites. Check it out!
