How would your internet handle mp arma …we know there were some “cough” issues when we tried DCS…just wondering if arma is easier going on the ping
I think you’re absolutely right regarding the addon packs adding scenarios not just units - but BI Studios set the example for that with the base game having a campaign mode with a basic story, some one-off scenarios to go with it (including co-op) and a smidge of world-building via the training.
I just checked and I am pinging 400ms-600ms to Australian and some Asian servers. 900ms-1200ms to Euro and US servers.
So my guess is somewhere on a sliding scale between ‘shite and totally unplayable’
Still happy to give it a go next time “The Professionals” gear up.
We’d love to have you!
I’m keen to at least give it a shot. Apart from the Antistasi mod, what other mods/DLC do I need?
Depending on when you are playing - I’m currently UTC +11 (AEDT)
Where did this information come from? I haven’t heard anything like this.
Really not too many, I think this is the current mod list still:
And the server info here:
I just got back from a 14-hour duty day (an organ actually didn’t get declined, finally! ) and am headed to bed. Haven’t gotten on Arma 3 in a little while (haven’t done much gaming lately, been on a lego kick with my kiddos) but will be out on the road a few overnights the later half of next week. Maybe we could put together a @Professionals Op one night?
I’ve just updated the server with the arma 3 hotfix and updated most mods. Let me know if it works.
It was said, in passing, on the discord. Though, they also indicated they have other projects to get to first, including a standalone game IIRC.
OMG I love your Area 88 PFP!
Hell yeah, love that anime and love me some UN Squadon, too.
Hehe yeah, it’s the same franchise with different names across the world. IIRC in Japan is Area 88.
I’d say at least 3/4 of the Arma enthusiasts I know don’t care at all about the BIS campaigns or missions. They use it no differently than DCS using community missions and campaigns, some paid ones, and mods thrown in. Some of them never even use the stock units.
To be fair, none of the titles’ campaigns since the original OFP did I really care for. Arma 1, 2, 3 and various addons really left me flat. I gave up on Arma 3 over 5 years ago now, though, so I can’t speak about the later 3rd party addons BIS released.
Old Man was quite good. But, true to myself, I didn’t finish it. I am definitely in the 1/4 if I am considered to be an enthusiast in your circle. That also may be because my ARMA MP career was an utter failure.
IMO, the best campaigns in ArmA 3 come from BIS. And that’s kind of hit or miss.
They do tend to spike in terms of design quality. They’ll range from pretty good to “Fire the Cro-Magnon who crawled out of Lascaux to make this.”
Contact is a perfect example. The opening few missions are either forgettable or just plain terrible. But, once it opens up and you understand how to use the new toys? It’s a LOT of fun.
The SOG PF missions are outstanding with friends. I’ve yet to try it with an AI Mod.
I really really really liked the original Arma 3 campaign… I just wish I could keep the enemy AI on high while making them less laser-death accurate.
I got stuck on Arma 3’s stock campaign at the first “open world” mission you could call it for lack of a better term.
The previous missions were all fairly linear, then you got this one with multiple objectives, searching towns for weapons caches or something, enemy units hiding in forests, all this different stuff.
Tried it twice and both times got stuck when triggers failed to go. Either I couldn’t get all the caches to register or I had zero luck finding a hiding squad or something.
What it needed was a “give up but win” button so you could move onto the next mission without needing to finish the current one.
That happened to me in Old Man. I was supposed to find evidence at an elementary school: photo? document? graffiti? Can’t remember. That’s where I quit. They should seek incompetents like me to beta test campaigns instead of their circle of friends and regulars.
I loved the Red Harvest campaign in Arma 2, and how it expanded from a story-driven mission with multiple branches to straight-up open-world. Unfortunately I was never able to legitimately finish it due to game-breaking bugs. The Arma 3 campaign didn’t have as good a story (IMO), but at least worked right the first time I tried it.
Old Man was great, as was Contact and the mini-campaigns with some of the official DLCs. If you like those, Western Sahara’s Extraction is probably my favorite. I would love to someday play it with a group.
