Just tried this today with a friend and we had absolutely no clue what to do.
So I found this vid and it explained a LOT to me. 
We were always starting in the smallest base. 
Agree… I forgot to write it here last night but it was some of the best fun I had in the longest time.
Truly reminiscent of the last year’s initial foray with Antistasi in ARMA 3. 
Can’t wait to see what ARMA 4 will become.

Still a bit janky, still a pixel peeping madness.
But now I know how to get myself a 4x scope and that’s much better! Ho ho ho.
Also figured out how to drop a mortar round onto a pile of logs 420m away. Got to look at the round and set the proper number of charges with the mouse wheel.
I feel about as combat ready as a flip flop, but it’s funny! There’s always some reason to have a laugh, as with great freedom comes great fuckupability.
I like to get an MG with a big mag and just spray in the general direction of the enemy. Keeps their head down and the AI will be distracted supressing me so that the Marksmen can do the heavy lifting

Rolling barrage with 20 mortars? Can we teach the AI to do this?
I don’t know. But we played around with mortars a while back. It’s a lot of fun calculating the firing solution with the help of a spotter. You can sit 4km away in some clearing and demolish an enemy base for example 
and with that the mudspike mortar detachment is formed… but judging by our past exploits and map reading skills, would you trust any of us with anything more explosive than a box of matches 
Don’t worry I think my map reading skills are above average. Should be good enough for this chaotic bunch
I used to hike a lot as a child using only map, compass and maybe a watch though I always had a bet going with my dad who could estimate time more accurately by judging the position of the sun.
I like that about the vanilla game. It gives you a couple necessities, like the progress on the map, plus only a few convenience features, like the magazine/bullets left indicator. So brain cells and memory need to be used instead of just slacking off on waypoint markers.
Less is more. The decluttered hud is great. I could go with even less.
