Everthing old is new again…
I hear that A/T teams on quad bikes with Javelin are doing ‘quite well’ in a certain part of the world at the moment.

one for @DanTDBV
That is just great to see.
Thank You for that.
Thanks for that.
We used the TALAFIT gunnery ‘simulator’ to achieve the same ‘aim’ (pun intended). It wasn’t a sim as such because you got a very basic tank silhouette through the viewfinder. But a readout would let the instructor know how much deviation there was between shots.
Gunnery Wing at the School of Armour also used what was known as the field minature range. A .22 cal rifle (actually a SLR with the sub-cal kit) was clamped to a bracket on the barrel and would fire when the gunner pulled the trigger. Yep, we basically used a multi million dollar tank turret and FCS to shoot at model tanks in a sandpit with a .22LR ![]()
Something similar when teaching Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM), the target box and paddle. In short set the rifle down on rest and have the student get behind it without disturbing it. While looking through the sights, they direct the individual with the target paddle to move it to where its correctly lined up on the sights. The paddle operator then marks the paper on the target. Repeat 3-5t times to form a group to verify that the student knows how to align the sights.
Love the flight path of that sabo after hitting the target
…And that’s how Sargeant Wilkins got the world record for skip-throwing. Yeah I know, using a 120mm tank gun is cheating. But it didn’t say in the rules, so yeah.
Come to think of it, you brits have a penchant for abusing explosive machinery for having a go at the skip-throwing record:

Yeah, we were fairly reknowned tossers back in the day ![]()

That video isn’t working for me, but I’m guessing something like this?

That is quite common… especially the practice versions of HESH etc (rounds that don’t go boom at the end).
That’s at Aeroseum outside Göteborg (Gothenburg) in Sweden. It’s my favourite visit when I’m in that region.
Never knew they used these still. Interesting article
Still probably better than anything the Russians would could sell them… I hear they might be running a bit low on stocks of their half decent MBTs.
Besides. South Africa is still using the Oliphant (modernised Centurion).
Really cool stuff in here. I find modernising older stuff to face current threats incredibly interesting
One for @Harry_Bumcrack I posted this before but from tictok but now found it on YouTube
Thanks for sharing that, I am guessing that the 2nd/extra optic for the CC is for the night vision sight? Otherwise those interior shots, especially of the drivers ‘hole’ really took be back.
Caution…pictures may cause pelvic thrusting
