Astronomy shots

Glad you like it @komemiute . Please feel free to use it. The Moon photo is just a single frame shot saved directly to my phone. Nothing fancy at all really.

If you ever want to make me a Christmas present - just a photo of the moon would be perfect.

Anything high res, especially if it’s not full moon, but anything goes really.

I have both the Seestar and my main imaging rig shooting the Elephant’s Trunk Nebula. It’s forecast to cloud over at about midnight, but I will hopefully get a pair of images to show that will be good for a comparison.

So far, the Seestar seems to be performing well.

That is mighty impressive for ‘entry level’ kit that even I reckon could use

This evening’s haul from the Seestar…

M42, the Great Orion Nebula.

M1 The Crab Nebula

and IC1396 The Elephant Trunk Nebula.

I took the Elephant Trunk image into PixInsight where I processed it quite agressively. I had to crop out a lot of the edges due to ‘field rotation’ issues that occur when you do astro-imaging on an Alt/Az mount. I rotated it to roughly align with my recent Elephant Trunk image (posted further up this thread)…

Seestar version

Main imaging rig version…

Obviously, it doesn’t match the image from my more expensive setup, but for a $500 imaging rig, it is truly impressive.

I’m thinking you need one  .

Really good looking results with the Seestar. I think I need one too. Already wished one from Santa, let’s see.

Which shop would be the best in the EU? Quick Googling I could only find 800€ price. Maybe it is the taxes (when comparing to 500$ US price).

I found this store, based in Germany…
Teleskop-Express: ZWO Seestar S50 Smart Telescope

You can also order directly from ZWO if you are comfortable in purchasing something from China. I would have no problem ordering from ZWO as they are a well established company.

the biggest shop in the EU is astroshop.eu, it’s the full 799€ which seems to be retail price in europe which of course includes taxes (19% in Germany for example), never heard of Teleskop-Express but it’s based in Germany and seems legit.

Average price for me from a .au store is about 900 dollaridoos…

Definitely on my wishlist. I might wait and see if they are on special for post Xmas sales?

Another Seestar shot… Thor’s Helmet. Heavily processed in PixInsight of course, but it still came out very nicely all things considered.

And this is how the image looks straight out of the SeeStar app…

Godammit!.. Sorry Paul, great shots but I’m now blocking this thread until after Xmas.

Well, it seems that ZWO is making good progress catching up with the back orders, so maybe after Christmas you will be able to pick one up without having to wait too long.

I somehow forgot to go to bed last night  .

This is NGC2903, a barred spiral galaxy found in the constellation Leo. The Moon washed it out a bit, but I think it still came out quite nicely.

Very nicely!

NGC 891 found in the constellation Andromeda. It is approximately 30 million light years away, with a diameter of about 122 thousand light years. This image is a stack of 71 x 3 minute exposures.

I’m seeing at least 3 background galaxies in the image, which are a lot more distant.

I’m running out of adjectives.

Me too.

Glad you like them. I am really enjoying the process of getting back into the hobby, and especially learning how to use the new gear and software.

I have both my main rig and the SeeStar outside right now.

Here is a quick shot for @komemiute

Hopefully I will have a couple of decent deep space images to process tomorrow morning.

This is M78, a reflection nebula in Orion. I stacked 55 x 3 minute exposures for this one.
