Was wondering when this would happen. Guess it’s now.
Now I don’t really know what I’m talking about but I’ve sort of settled on the next air war being an asymmetrical fight between a few really expensive super high tech jets and about 50,000 drones launched from a truck with some explosives hot-glued onto them. How quickly can we churn out DJI’s at $50 a pop and hot glue?
Totally agree, but all glue is made in China. Did you consider that?
All glue?
We must not allow a glue stick gap!
It’s a pretty neat idea for training, but I kind of agree that cheap fast drones (lots of them) will be the future. You could literally overwhelm air defenses by sheer numbers. Pretty much what we are seeing in Ukraine but at a much larger scale.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the F-35 can interact with simulators on ground, as if they were airborne. I listened to a lecture about the capabilities of this system a few years ago and they said the simulator aircraft would show on the airborne aicraft sensors, but not visually…yet.
I guess the system mentione in @piper’s article is what they were talking about.
Hack into that capability and the F-35 is rendered useless.
One can only hope they thought about that…
Somehow I get the feeling that what is happening in Ukraine will be shaping the way we think about these things…
E.g.
Cardboard Box
Vs
Tu-22
Totally agree with everyone concerning upcoming drone wars.
I just thought the article was cool showing how pilot training was evolving.
I saw an interview recently with the Sec USAF and he said that the capability we have is a a generation ahead of the Ukraine drone wars.
Oh god, I love to see that- please dpn’t stop I’m so close.
