Augmented Reality

Interesting

Augmented Reality Demo:

Quest 3 & Virtual Desktop
BMS 4.38.07
Hellenic Theater of Operations (HTO) v1.4.5

NOTE: BMS and HTO are a work in progress. Recording was done through Quest 3 thus game play is much smoother than in recording.

I go back and forth between this and projected visuals. That is so much cooler though. The only thing that’s got me really hesitant is the weight of the headset.

The Quest 3 is not that unwieldy. I rarely think about it.

I think that the reason that AR works so well in the video that @MigBuster linked, is that the dude has built himself a cockpit. It’s hard to tell where the hardware ends and the VR begins. It would be nice to see it unplugged.

Speaking of home sim pits for AR…

I am smitten with the idea…

I’m wondering how readable the MPDs are in the headset. I’ve finally got some settings that allow me to read those in the F-15E without zooming, but wonder how they look in AR.

Probably not as good as in VR.
The Varjo XR-4 comes with cameras that equal the resolution of the screen, but at a hefty price.
Still, it’s the tech that is really interesting. I wonder if AR is the only way we can really use our hands, effectively, with VR…?

You are right, but I can’t help but feel excited about how AR is progressing.

AR is doing good but how about MR?

Do you mean Mixed Reality?
I kind of think of that as another description of AR

So wait- how are the area masked or not defined? because at that point one could have big fat MFD from DCS overlapping the players legs… no need to look at the real ones through the VR headset cameras

I think that you are correct Nevo. By pressing a button on your HOTAS, you are using a physical world element to interact with the digital world. So by definition it would be MR, as I understand it.

Not quite what you mean kome, but this video comes to mind. He is exporting/displaying the MPDs in the upper part of his digital display. I interpret that as in his headset, the physical MPDs aren’t very readable.
