I was just flicking through the available badges (because I want them all dammit) and I realised that @schurem hasn’t got the community event host badge despite his “fight club” nights and nor has @Maico
How in the HELL do you get the rampant speculation badge?
Can we have more added? Is that a thing with discourse? I like them. They make me happy. I can only think of silly ones at the moment that apply to individuals which defeats the point of “community badges” I’m sure we could all post in here and make some recommendations for the staff to act on? Let’s try to keep it as inclusive as possible so everyone has a chance to earn them rather than it becoming like a meme for each member.
Stuff like “meets online” if you’ve joined in a Mudspike meetup and “hardware helper” for confirmed tech support solutions.
I thought since we had @Bearhedge and @Maico recently talking about enjoying landing after a sortie and making it back in one piece - well after I already mentioned trying to move to the same type of “more is less” philosophy that perhaps we could add a badge for:
RTB Club:
For those that have enjoyed the success of making the full trip, even if that means a less eventful one.
AAR is easy now that I have done it a lot but those first few attempts are murderously frustrating. We should really do a badge for successful AAR refueling as that’s a worthy personal accomplishment.
Wrong Pedals Badge:
Acquired for: posting a screenshot from having been shot down where the pilot is alive on the ground.
Description: You made it down, boots on the ground. Pilot boots belong on pedals though, so you’re going to have to ask the locals to borrow a bicycle.
And we would like to present the Overactive Imagination Badge to @Wes
I am thinking the RTB badge should be a thing. No matter how you look at aerial combat, its all about coming back. The crews are important and so are aircraft. Especially now that aircraft will sometimes outlive us all. How many targets you got or aircraft shot down is all secondary to getting home. Ive been putting more emphasis on navagation systems in the last two years. Love working them sometimes cookie systems(Im looking at you Fishbed). Its fun and feels very historic. NBDs are cool.
Aerial refueling… Ok, I would really have to work hard to earn that one.
Lol, thanks for that. It reminded me of my Grandmother who passed several years ago.
Back when VCR’s were the new must have toy she bought one and was complaining about how she could not get it to stop flashing 12:00. I fixed it for her but the next morning it was flashing 12:00 again. So I fixed it again and the same thing happened the next day. As some of you may have already surmised she had it plugged into an outlet controlled by a switch. I explained the problem to Grandma but she did not want to move the cord so I just let Grandma be Grandma and learned to ignore it.
