Ok.
2 questions. 1) wait till sale? 2) wasteland 2, better or worse, because I absolutely LOVE that game

Dunno, haven’t played that tbh.
You can, if your plate is full. If there’s a “click snarkily voiced mercenary forces across a map murdering all who need murdering in many interesting and creative ways”-shaped hole in your entertainment menu, then buy right the fork now.
Yeah…i might do that. Its been on my radar
JA3 is really good, the only reason I’m not playing it now is the other ‘3’ has taken over.
Wow! And I thought I was a completionist? 57 hours and I think I am about 2/3 of the way through Act 2 - judging by the amount of map I have revealed?
But I (deliberately) missed the Mountain Pass and Githyanki Creche route to the Shadowlands. I am saving that for a 2nd playthrough.
Perhaps I am just slow.
And a few of the hours are messing around with two other classes.
But yeah, I like to look under every stone, and explore different ways that I can find.
I think I have done everything on the surface of act1 except creche, mountain pass and shadowlands. I am almost finished with the underdark, then I will have the hard decision where to go because I think the aforementioned areas are mutually exclusive? Not sure.
Edit: But then that will have to wait a bit. I go on vacation tomorrow and BG3 doesn’t run on my laptop.
Aren’t vacations about getting away from the usual and having fun & relaxing… Have fun & relax.
Anyway.
I was about halfway through the underdark when I decided I will definitely be doing a second playthrough so I stopped save cheesing (except boss encounters) and exploring for the XP rather than the loot - I figure if there is a critical quest item it won’t be hidden in some random chest or basket Plus my rogue is making traps and locks almost too easy. Currently +14 on the D20 roll means I can focus on all the phat loot
I will likely never play this game. But somehow I am really enjoying this discussion.
Same here @smokinhole its not my thing, but I’m very much enjoying everyones enthusiasm for it
The two things that set BG3 apart as a RPG (IMHO):
I don’t feel like the narrative is forcing me into dialogue choices. Sure, in most cases there is an obviously good and obviously evil choice, but by and large your options are suitably nuanced to allow you to play your character ‘your way’.
The side missions (if you can call them that) don’t feel like tacked on opportunities just for extra XP and a unique item. They have been woven into the overall fabric of the story in such a way that they don’t feel like a distraction from the main plot.
If you are on the fence wait until it is on sale, otherwise I think you would be doing yourself a disservice. Then, if you genuinely don’t think it is one of the best RPG (regardless of genre), I will refund you the ‘full’ price.
That was EPIC… That was BRUTAL… That was BRUTALLY EPIC… That was only the end of Act 2
I am still in act1. But almost done.
Love your enthusiasm Harry
Still in act 1 too, Auntie Ethel is freaking me out!
Also feeling oddly snubbed, all I’ve read about is how sex crazed everyone in this game is and so far (besides opening a certain barn door) things have been as chaste as can be.
I do wish there was a bit more direction sometimes, feel like I’m stumbling into areas I’m not ready for, or learning about things maybe before I’m ‘supposed to’. Been trying to avoid looking up things online but maybe I should take a little peak at a guide just to orient myself a bit.
Same speck
About the romance and stuff:
Make sure to talk to your companions, and take rests. Lot of stuff happens during rests.
It’s funny, at first I was relieved but now after a while I’m “but, but, don’t you like me?”
I have been a bit stingy with the long rests for some reason, will take some more and make sure to wear my finest unmentionables, leaving the sleeping bag zipper slightly (but provocatively) open a few inches.
I have stumbled into areas that I wasn’t ready for, like the missing caravan, after losing three times thought I will come back to this, but unfortunately by the time I remembered I had passed a point of no return in Act 2. Oh well, at least it will be something new for a second playthrough.
Same with finding NPCs or items early. It gets a bit jarring when someone asks for help a bit later in the game and you go ‘oh, here you are’.
But, I have only looked up one thing so far. The moon puzzle for the underdark entrance - I knew what I had to do but getting the combo right was bugging the heck out of me.
And, you have to get your approval high enough - to check press TAB to bring up the party screen and at the bottom of each NPC is a ‘slider’ that shows approval.
Performing actions in their presence and dialogue choices will raise or lower your approval. So basically just like in RL the best way to have sex with someone is tell them what they want to hear
Wait so you can come back to act 1 after act 2? Act 2 is a new location/map, right?
I’d assumed (seems incorrectly) it was sort of a hard cut-off.
Need to look up some basics, I think - something not too spoilery which will at least help me feel I’m not floundering as much.
oh I had no idea about the ‘slider’ so thanks!
