I am pretty sure that there will be enough interest for BG3 to have it’s own topic.
Full release in two weeks, but now available for early access, what are you waiting for?

Waiting cause I’m frightened about how much of my life it might take over!
Also figure it’s this close to release I can hold off a few more weeks. There’s no way I’ll have time for more than one play through so might as well hold off.
I can relate to that
My plan is:
Early access BG3 between now and the end of August (see how much of Act 1 I get through and get a feel for different classes).
Starfield (already pre-ordered).
Followed by a ‘proper’ playthrough of BG3.
I just told the wife - I will see you in (our) Summer
Btw. for those of you who prefer GOG, it’s available there too.
Been on my wishlist for a few years but i’ll wait for some reviews before i get it.
I’ve been playing the early access since the beginning. It’s come along way. It’s great and big, kinda too big in my opinion but that’s the way these games are going now-a-days.
Just FYI, I do believe I read that everyone will be reset on day 1 official release. So, if true not really worth starting unless you want practice.
I bought BG3 in ea right after the announcement that all ea purchasers will automatically be upgraded to the digital deluxe edition on release. I intended to wait but the announcement was a carrot I couldn’t resist. BG and Icewind Dale were my favorite CRPGs. I’ve tried others, like Pathfinder and Pillars of Eternity, but never got the level of attachment I’ve gotten from the former two series.
I’m looking forward to trying a Monk as my main character. I usually play Rangers or Paladins. I did start playing but decided to stop and wait for the release.
I pre-ordered it asap and played the early access. I just had to because BG1 and BG3 are among my favorite games ever. I played through both of them multiple times.
BG3 was already pretty great in a very early state.
My only concern is time. I totally lack the time for large time consuming games these days. But I have to try. Probably going Druid, Wizard or Paladin for my first playthrough.
My own fault, but until this thread I never realised BG was set in the d&d universe
One of the D&D settings, yes.
The Forgotten Realms.
oh yes … the sword coast, I may have played a bit in my time (the hint is in my user name)
I’m madly in love with the lore of the Undermountain.
Like most, I was going to wait for release… But figured if it is this close then EA has to be 99% there?
Even though EA saves won’t carry over I am glad I did. As it is giving me a chance to try the different classes. Very much a D&D game true to the original BG and it also has a Neverwinter Nights vibe to it as well, especially the interface.
It is recommended that you delete your early access game saves (via the in game menu), any mods and to uninstall the early access version.
Done, done, and done. i"m all set
Ya, they also recommend you completely uninstall the EA game, and remove any saved games or mods from it… a clean install will be required.
It comes out tomorrow at Noon I believe… but I have a feeling it won’t get downloaded for long hours. Steam my struggle, may crash they say… will see.
Figured I might get it downloaded and create my character my night fall, so won’t get into the story till probably Friday. I’m guessing.
Releases at zero-dark-early for me… a bit under 14 hours as I type this.
But I’m not getting up in the middle of the night and will start the DL tomorrow morning at a civilised hour. Hopefully server load will have diminished a bit by then?
Then I am going to re-roll my Drow Rogue (sneaky assassin/thief). What is everyone else’s starting Race/Class?
I still haven’t decided whether my first character will be a Paladin, Wizard, or Druid. Hell, a Ranger might also be a good idea.
As a D&D 5th edition dungeon master I know all the classes and can find good reasons to play most of them in the first campaign. I expect that I will start several campaigns and just play a bit to see how they play. I did that during the EA already, but my favorite classes were not available yet.
In this game - just like in tabletop D&D - some classes have it harder early on (like Wizard) but shine later. Wizard for example depends a lot on whether you can obtain the spells you need. And the Wizard companion (Gale) is a fun guy, I think I’d rather first experience his story instead of being the Wizard myself, even though that is my favorite class in most games.
The level cap being 12 (IIRC) means that it can make more sense to multiclass some classes than others, because their cool level 13,14 or 15 abilities never get reached anyway…
…argh, so many options…
Downloads are extremely slow on my end so, I’ve decided to dl programs and updates in my queue. This is a first for me because I tend to wait a day or two, but I think I may have been infected by a tadpole.
Anyway, I usually play Rangers but I think I will try a Monk as my main character for the first time. I’ve had them in my parties in other RPGs but never as a main.
I think I have settled for Paladin for the first try.
Downloading now, slowly though. Between 8 and 11MB/s
