Baseball (MLB)

I don’t know how many members here follow baseball but has anyone noticed the current record of the Colorado Rockies? They are 9-50!

I don’t think they make paper bags large enough for their fans to wear.

I did make a thread about few years back.
I occasionally watch Baseball, but I am totally clueless.

Uh… what does that mean?

9 wins and 50 losses.

lol. I seriously think the Rockies will beat the record for most losses in one season!

The best part? Not even at the half way point. They play 162 games a year. Last year, the Chicago White Sox went 41-121.

I wish I liked baseball. Being passionate about something that makes for compelling conversation while being apolitical would mean that I could talk to other Americans again.

I’ve been a fan since 1979 but I also completely understand why some people find it boring and also why the sport was experiencing declining tv ratings until these major recent rule changes were made. In this social media world we live in, most viewers want instant gratification.

I miss NOT having a pitch timer…I always enjoyed the mental game between the hitter and pitcher…had more time to get a beer between pitches too.

Baseball, that’s the American version of Cricket right?

Just joking. I understand the basics, but the statistics are lost on me… I have actually been to a game in the US. I guess it is one of those ‘cultural’ things every visitor should try at least once.

I hate to bring up cricket again but it went through the same changes. One day rules were introduced in the 1970s, actually an Australian ‘invention’ by a media mogul of the time, purely to make it a better format for TV.

This has morphed into the 20/20 big bash league of the past few years and a game now only takes a few hours, not three days… Maybe it is better to say that cricket is our version of baseball

To be fair, some pitchers (Looking at you, Pedro Baez) were absolutely glacial on the mound. Like, 2 minutes between pitches.
