We get our kicks elsewhere on mudspike
Oh dear, poor Eric. Can you point us out on the picture where the mean flying machine touched you?
That is a poem of metal and science. Delicious.

In my defense. I did say I was pleasantly surprised.

Nice counter point
Dangerously high levels of Spitfire slander in hereā¦
My first round the world flight was in the DH.88 Comet in FSX. I am ashamed for not thinking of it, thank you mentioning it!
I to believe the spitfire to be gorgeous, but very overrated. I think the P51 is the best looking allied fighter of WW2
Iām fully on board with the early Harrier that looks the most like the Kestrel/P.1127 being the best looking one
And despite the probably poor view out of the cockpit, I do like the look of sleeker front-end design compared to the later Sea Harrier and Harrier II raised cockpits.
But then they wrecked it adding the laser spot tracker in the GR.3! Great improvement in capability, but a ruination of the sleek linesā¦
Hmmm. To my eye, the Mustang has nothing on the Spitfireā¦ the pot-belly for the intercooler, the squared off tail and (on the later models at least) the teardrop canopy makes it look like a bunch of design elements standing on their own, rather than a cohesive whole.
I will give you that the wing planform is attractive, at least in the Merlin powered variants.
Iām an airshow veteran. Seeing mk1 spitfire, mk5 mk9 mk14 and all the mustangs in the same airspace at the same time made my mind up. The mustang looks better in the air.
Fair call then - while I have seen a Mk VIII and a Mk XVI Spitfire at airshows, and plenty of Mustangs (actually on reflection itās probably the same two Mustangs over and over again ), Iāve actually never seen a Mustang and a Spitfire in the air at the same time!
Edit: gratuitous Spitfire photo (actually a Canadian made Mk XVI, but still a British design)
Yeah, that GR.3 nose is the airplane version of a, āButter Faceā.
Ah, now I understand. You are infected with Humveetosis. The symptoms are clear to see. Lack of taste, perspective and vision impairment.
You need to avoid working in cramped spaces, no contact with bearing grease and you must not operate any heavy machinery for at least a month.
Hope you feel better soon.
That explains it! The symptoms all match up. A fear of curves, an inexplicable pull towards angles of 90 degrees, theft of ideas and a general will to annex gardens surrounding mine and drillā¦
My godā¦
