Bodacious British Birds

Honourable mention to the Sea Vixen.

Can we have a top 20 instead?

I’m going to be controversial and say I think the Hawker P.1127 is a beautiful aircraft. The Harrier, as much as I love it, is a bit ungainly in comparison… in my opinion!

Edit:

Actually this is the picture I had in mind…

the sr2 was an amazing plane … just the proportions look wrong to me … small wings, overly long front end and high set wings…

Too much Canadian involvement to make the list.

I’m not convinced that plane was ever going to be good.

It would have utterly rocked its intended mission; carrying one or two nukes deep behind enemy lines at treetop height while going the speed of stink. But that would have been the only thing the thing would ever be good at.

I, perhaps unsurprisingly, disagree.

The first model particularly has some great lines, quirky gloss camouflage, and a great pointy nose.

Sorry to throw a spanner into the works but:

I always thought that the Tiger Moth had the prettiest tail compared to its contemporaries.

If you don’t like the list, invert your assumption about which end is 1 and which end is 20

Victor
Concorde
Sea Fury
Hunter
Harrier GR.1
Lightning
VC10
Vulcan
Comet
Tiger Moth

Valiant
Dragon Rapide
Sea Vixen
TSR2
> Buccaneer
Snipe
Mosquito
Vampire
Hawk
Canberra

EDIT: forgot the bad British version of the A-6. Not an A-6, but at least as good, probably better, in the looks department.

Nope… fat nose cannot be on the list:rofl::rofl:

Buccaneer… that lumpy bulging thing, with its short square wings and lumpy nose.

Really. From a man who deems the spitfire overrated. You wound me sir.

Not following this thread closely because 1) I am not British and 2) I have a particular hatred for flying machines at the moment. But the precursor to the Mossie, the Glouster “something or another” was a beauty like no other. 30 years ago Kermit Weeks flew one to my airport that he restored in its original air racer glory; red with “Grosvenor” (or some such thing) painted on the side. It was and is the most beautiful plane I had ever seen.

EDIT: “Grosvenor House”. Of course! Quite famous.

I don’t know who made this list, but ok. For me #1 is the Vulcan and its not even close. TSR.2 is #2.

By the way, I cant be the only one who saw the name of the thread and expected to watch some thirst traps, but was pleasantly surprised it was airplanes.
