The first Swedish Hockey player to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Best known for his exploits with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He was diagnosed with ALS (Gehrigs disease) and died today, 71 years old.
Salming has always been the hockey player for me and a big sports idol in my youth.

He had attended a recent Leafs game as part of his induction into the hockey hall of fame, very emotional

ALS is the worst. I’ve known much younger sufferers so at least there’s that.

To the tunes of a modern Sàmi joik, Salmings Nr.17 shirt is hoisted to the ceiling of the hockey rink in Gävle, Sweden, where he started his Swedish league career for Team Brynäs, 100km from where I grew up.
