Buck Danny. Cartoon hero!

Soon:

Actually it’s volume 58 and part 3 of a trilogy. Volumes 59 and 60 will be a dyptich and the scenario has been finished.
Meanwhile artist Gil Formosa has finished in concept volume 59; the 46 pages (overview):

Preview #1 from volume 59 (Cinebook volume 14):

Scenario The Pact (brief):
The secret organisation CIRCLE (like SPECTRE in the James Bond movies) is dissatisfied about Jane “Lady-X” Hamilton and send Sato Yamasaki (known from Buck Danny # 54 and #55 [= Cinebook #9 + #10] ) to kill her. Despite prominent with a Colt Python357 Magnum on the album cover, Buck couldn’t kill Sato with this weapon, so Sato may return in the upcoming dyptich. Somewhat earlier, Jane Hamilton, who want’s to survive Sato, was seeking for help with her enemy, Buck Danny, resulting in a pact. She has important info about that deadly virus (read both previous albums), and uses that as an asset. Near the Mexican/American boarder Sato attacks with his (stolen) F-35B the F-4 Phantom-II from Lady-X and Buck Danny. Buck is able to leave the F-4 by parachute, but Lady-X tries to escape to Mexico. However, when she leaves the F-4 by parachute, she just lands on American soil. And because of the (Donald) Trump wall, she isn’t able to escape to Mexico and arrested by the American boarder cops.
Will Buck get her out op prison in the next dyptich? On concept pages 14 and 16 from volume 59, we may notice a lady with short, black hair. Jane "Lady-X "Hamilton has as an American prisoner an orange outfit and a bald head, so having a short haircut in the beginning of a new story is realistic…

On January 28, 2022, we may look forward to a 3rd Buck Danny spin-off: The Young Years of Buck Danny (aka “Buck Danny - Origin”). A diptich between Volumes 2 and 3 of the Buck Danny main-series. We then are in Summer 1942, actually June 1942. A 2-part story with flashbacks.
Scenario by Yann from France (very well-known from aviation graphic-novel series like Angel Wings, Night-Owl, Bear Tooth, etc.), and the Italian artist Giuseppe De Luca. The colourist is his Italian wife, Ketty Formaggio. She also coulours the Buck Danny Classic spin-off series ( 8 volumes so far) and the Tanguy & Laverdurre Classic series (4 volumes so far) by-the-way.
The title of Buck Danny - Origin volume 1/2: “The Pilot with the broken Wing”.

Scenario:
June 1942. The young Buck Danny is a F4F Wildcat pilot aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6). He is enlisted after the treacherous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Taking advantage of a permission to visit his parents and his younger brother, nicknamed “Microbe”, Buck will unfortunately discover the death of his father Walter Danny… Only one solution for the heartbroken pilot is to resume the fight within his unit in order to escape his distress. Next Buck’s Wildcat is shot down by the Japs, and he finds himself alone in the middle of the Pacific: on an inflatable dinghy and under a relentless sun. An opportunity for him to rethink his childhood, as well as certain traumas being intimately linked to him. And while these floods of memories come back to him in his memory, a Japanese submarine rises to the surface…

At the end of volume 2 of the Buck Danny main series, Buck is still in the Pacific as a F4F Wildcat pilot, but on page 1 of volume 3 he is on R & R in the States with his mother an younger brother. One day he receives a telegram, and it appears he -as an US-Navy pilot- is enlisted at the Flying Tigers (= the 14th Air Force), in Kunming, China. In short, becoming an USAAF pilot (with rank “captain”). Why this (rare) move by his superiors will perhaps be explained in this upcoming dyptich…
En route, via Australia, he meets his future pals: 2nd Lt. Sonny Tuckson and Flying Tiger captain Jerry Tumbler.

Scenario (by Fréderic Zumbiehl and Fréderic Marniquet):
Argentina, 1957. Major Buck Danny and the Mossad agent Béate Akerman are the fake couple “Smith”. They are looking for captain Jerry Tumbler, who disappeared with his Sea Dart aircraft above the Argentinian mountains, and for 2nd Lt. Sonny Tuckson , who’s old postal airplane was shot down by local bandits. Their search lead them to the small village of Ciudad Verde. This village looks like from a Bavarian postcard, and it appeared to be deserted… Why? The answer may come from a DC-4 transport plane landing at night and revealing to Buck and Béate the existence of a secret base, dug under a lake in the Altiplano. A base where former Nazis are preparing for the Fourth Reich, and continuing a project started during World War II, where then were rumours about an antigravity system, allowing aircrafts to fly at dizzying speeds while reducing air resistance…

Aviation graphic novel series Buck Danny is since the introduction in January 1947 still going strong:
in December 2021 the release of a Victor Hubinon art-book with 320 pages. Artist Vic Hubinon (1923 - 1979) drew the first 40 Buck Danny albums. He also drew some other popular comic book series like Redbeard and Tiger Joe. With scenario’s mostly by Jean-Michel Charlier.

The art-book cover scene by Vic Hubinon is from the enclosure of Spirou magazine #1620, from May 1, 1969. As this art-book is a Victor Hubinon hommage, I would have kept the original colouring though.

By-the-way, artist Albert Weinberg copied this scene to promote his comic book series Dan Cooper:

Regarding the 2-part spin-off Buck Danny - Origins:

“Popular Aviation”: the magazine that inspired Buck Danny to become a pilot in the 30s…
However, Buck’s father Walter Danny is’t happy with the future plans of his son…

Also in “Popular Aviation” an article about a young, female flying-ace: Jane Hamilton with her Seversky P-38 airplane. Buck Danny will meet her in person in 1958, more than 20 years later, as a masked criminal pilot with nickname “Lady-X”, who operates in secret (see Buck Danny volume 17 “Buck Danny against Lady-X” from 1958 too).

Rather clever by scenarist Yann to put a young Jane Hamilton in “Popular Aviation” from the 30s. When spin-off Buck Danny - Origins appears to be successful, he can write a new spin-off: “Jane Hamilton - Origins” or “Lady-X - Origins”: how she became from a celebrated young flying-ace a feared criminal.
