Building a new PC

Oh man, the Intel vs AMD ranking on that website is completely out of whack, wth

A website run by Intel fanboys?

@Troll it feels like we’re running in [a loose] formation here - about to depart on a, hopefully, fruitful journey to a new rig.

First, I know that a year from now no matter what I build it will not be the latest/greatest. I’m used to that.

I’ve been on the fence over AMD vs Intel for a few months but it’s getting be time to “fish or cut bait” as they say. The CPU will start the [final] dominoes falling and, for flight sims (DCS specifically, and others) the 5900X sure seems like the best option. I’ve had AMD stuff before but it was a LONG time ago and I have no concerns there.

Then the mobo will need to be purchased. The case I have time for and an ATX should make stuffing the turkey easier.

Think I have everything else already; 64 GB RAM (3600 I think) as it was available at 3600 and a decent price a few months back. 1000w Power supply, etc, etc.

EDIT: I like what I’ve heard about AMD’s seeming to use less power and a bit cooler. This has more significance to me than it used to (my man-closet can get a bit toasty in the summer).

EDIT[2]: Of course FINDING a chip is an issue and may/will throw me a curve.

I’m really insulted that you don’t take my unsubstantiated statements as the final word! Trust me, this is the Internet.

It’s called UserBenchmark, so best guess it’s people voting with their benchmarks? People do and say stupid things on the internet for sure.

Had to google it. Apparently their ranking is artificially favouring Intel for some reason lol
This is actually hilarious.

I mean you could just read their i9 11900k review and then compare it to every other review from sites and reviewers like Anandtech, tomshardware, gamers nexus, hardware unboxed, LTT etc.

In all seriousness, why? I don’t care. I linked to the site to compare between two editions of AMD chips. Is the comparison not valid, or is @Troll’s topic now about people not being honest in product recommendation sites? I’m a 3DFX Voodoo man only, everyone else is obviously an idiot.

Of course not. It’s just that I was a bit perplexed at the result when I decided to see how the AMD CPUs would compare to Intel CPUs …

Edit:
The more I look into it the more I think it’s best to visit that site for entertainment purposes only.
Users have no influence over how the website ranks cpus, they just upload the benchmarks.
It is seriously misleading to consumers who aren’t following the tech space which is a shame because it’s actually pretty well designed and easy to use. It would be a really cool website if it was ranking the benchmarks/CPUs correctly.

I promise this is the last I say on that topic^^

My kinda guy!

Yes we do even if I never got a badge for it. Let’s get it on next friday, my back is on the mend. Even with a bad back I’ll take alla y’all! Or at the least teach a lesson or two

Good info! I was only looking at X570 boards…

Friday is no good. I…need to cut my toenails…

I also like the fact B550 doesn’t need a fan on the chipset. Much better for durability.

This isn’t going to help much but (angrer meg, @Troll), when I needed to ship my “monster DCS Rig” and was going to be without for a few weeks, I purchased a high-end Alienware so I could “play” (read “work”) DCS until the monster rig made the “Translant”. The funny thing is that it is the one I use most often now. Sure it is just “pancake mode” but the thing really performs.

Built my son an AMD build for Christmas, 5600 with a b550 board, it’s running well and cool on air too.
I don’t think the b550 chip supports overclocking
