Civil Aviation Ministry of Information thread

Ah, you got a point there, didn’t think of the low inertia in such a small, light rotor. And people flying around in these might not practise autorotations all that often, so maybe not a gimmick after all.
But yeah, close to the ground it won’t do much good.

Low inertia is not an issue with this one, so they say. A ballistic recovery system (BRS) is installed instead. I wish them luck!

Not sure what you mean. It’s has better autorotation properties?
If so, why install a BRS ”instead”?

Sorry. I was watching planes fly while trying to type. Yes it is unable to autorotate within certification reaction times. So autos do not need to be demonstrated. Instead you push the big button just like a Cirrus.

I’m impressed you were able to write a whole sentence…

Ok, that makes sense!

Shame. Lovely aircraft but good bloke for admitting his mistakes and learning from them. Very humbling I imagine

Definitely a class act to own it like he did. Just looking at the video it is very obvious that he made a (big) mistake, but we all have lapses in judgement once in awhile (even me ! ). That is also known as being human. The main thing is that nobody was hurt.

Good thing he’s ok. Great learning experience for the rest of us. I’ve come close to doing that. Just goes to show, its the plane, not the motor. Power only gets you so far.

Let this sink for a moment.
That is the approved method of cutting trees so they don’t interfere with power lines.

THAT is the approved method.
A giant swinging 30ft long chainsaw hanging from an helicopter.

That means that at the meeting choosing the way to do it… there were alternative that got discarded because they were probably more dangerous.

So what we’re saying is that the approved method of tree trimming is literally a Bond villain weapon? I’m starting to think this was the thinking of the people voting to determine the “approved” method of tree trimming:

“Method X is the safest and most effective way, I’ll vote for that.”
“But that is a literal Bond villain invention. How cool would it be to have that?”
“But I really should be responsible. I’ll vote for the safe option.”
“But everyone else will vote for the safe option. What the hell, I’ll vote for the Bond villain option.”

The problem is, everyone was thinking that. And look at the awesomeness we got out of it!

We will meet Antonov…this will end with our meeting…one day it will happen.

I can’t wait for ORBX PeopleFlow to model this…

Gotta commend that guy, solution oriented, stopped the cart, saved the nose of the plane! Good work!

Yup…there’s no way he’ll make it to upper management…he’s way too competent and valuable on the ramp…

Wonder if the guy who stopped the cart is the one who left it in reverse??
