Civil Aviation Ministry of Information thread

Me too. I’ve seen people drive cars.

And before anyone says “it will be automated” I’ve also seen people sleeping behind the wheel of tesla vehicles

I don’t think the general public understands much how dynamic the flying environment is. Nor maybe investors in these mass / personal transport systems. In general, nearly every flight is a carefully planned out one that almost never goes exactly to the plan. I’m sure AI and computing power can solve a lot of the randomness of the problems…but…I don’t know. And in the end, it won’t even about statistics - it won’t be about whether one mode or another is safer…in the end it will come down to perception…and it would only take one pilotless aircraft to crash to kill confidence. Even if it is statistically safer than the obvious where dumb (or unluckly) manned aircraft crash at a higher rate/frequency. Perception kills statistics.

One thing helicopters has taught me to respect more than ever in my flying career are birds. You can’t ipad-swipe your way around a bird. But if you fail to avoid it, well, the odds are not in favor of either you or the bird. There is no way to automate airmanship. Those who claim otherwise are likely blindly making a buck at the expense of not just safety, but common sense.

Anyone in the Wichita, Ks area, the Textron Denali is supposed to make it’s first flight today.
Looks like a TBM and PC-12.
Flying from the ICT plant.

I was at ICT not too long ago and saw a SkyCourier prototype fly. A modern take on the ‘Twotter’ by the looks of it. I wonder how it compares performance wise.

Not my photo…

Bruno Vassel (I call him Mr. Nephi) is back after a six month hiatus and breaks a state record, running 750km’s on just thermals. No ridge. Pretty uneventful glide but it’s good to see Bruno back in the sailplane with beautiful skies! …

Nice little option for a sailplane … a jet engine! …

Saw that video yesterday on Blancolirios channel, including the moments before the horn goes off.

It’s a 3 part Thriller in under 60 seconds. Holy cow!

Very cool. It is what I imagine I look like in my plane all the time. Reality…not so much…

Fun times for the FAA on the West Coast. ‘Grounded Due to North Korean Missile Launch’ scored well on my 2022 Bingo card…

I would have thought after that first “landing” that the lift dump devices would have deployed and kept the plane on the ground. I don’t know how the Airbus works though…it might have to have both squat switches compressed and the right hand gear never really compressed a whole lot… Or…I guess if the decision had already been made to go around, the throttle forward would prevent the spoilers or whatever from deploying.
