I had to give uplong distance cycling recently due to reasons but I used to love it, was doing close to 300 miles a week with the club I was in. This was after a 3 mile climb on a hot day on my carbon fibre Focus.
That’s a beautiful shot there with the lowlands behind you…always nice to hit the top…unless its a false summit…
Went on my normal 17.3 mile route this morning. As usual, almost empty roads, and half the route on gravel through the woods…
That tree wasn’t there yesterday…
Nice rolling country road segment…perfect weather today in the high 60s…
Quick question - is a squeaky drive-train always a sign the chain and gears need to be lubricated? I rode in the rain a few days ago and I’ve noticed my pedaling has gotten a bit squeakier the past couple of days. Time to add some dry lubricant?
Yep, might want to clean it up a little as well. You should not just hear the difference. It should be noticeably lighter.
Yeah…my normal ride is a mix of gravel and road. The gravel is largely crushed gravel and when it is dry it kicks up some fine dust. I’m reluctant to hose off the bike after every ride, but maybe I should (?)…
If you’re riding a lot on gravel, you could always go with a dry lube. It’s waxy and dries on the chains. As the chain picks up dust/grit it drops off. I use this on my mountain bike.
The disadvantage is that it doesn’t last as long, I usually re-apply before I head out, but for gravel/dust and trail riding, it works better because I find that wet lube turns into grinding paste.
Road bike I use wet lube as I typically ride for much longer with less muck being picked up off the road.
I do clean my chain down though every month or so.
Great technology, I have used a similar setup as these in combination with ear plugs while shooting. Radio transmissions loud and clear and still having ear protection in.
…but if a tree falls I the woods, and there is nobody to hear or see it, does it actually happen?
I think not!
…see what I mean!
Considering the ~15km/h headwind I was facing for about 30km today I made pretty good time on my way home:
You are supposed to tuck in off the quartering flank of Tony Martin and let him do all the work…the Panzerwagen…
Nice commute with an extra headwind bit of training.
Yesterday’s ride was nice and sunny, but all of a sudden it’s got chilly.
I had to laugh because I had the GT that they showed and thought that it was so radical at the time. Mine had oval chain rings too. They may call old school fun and I guess vinyl is making a comeback too. But really that thing feels like a tank compared to the current CF full suspension MTBs. It would get tiresome in a hurry to all but the most nostalgic.
I’ve been coaching since 1993, first with mountain bikes, and then with track cycling for about a year, and finally, road riding. But after moving to Reno in late summer, it’s been almost all mountain biking.
One of my “kids”, came down from Bozeman a week or two back, and we rode all over, including the Flume Trail at Lake Tahoe. The fitness is coming back, the handling is improving, and we’re using Shockwiz’s to tune our suspension systems.
Fun times! Come visit! Maybe we can fly, too!
Mountainbiking looks so much fun unfortunately there are barely any trails around here and the only good one has been closed for over a year now for liability reasons because it needs to be approved by the TÜV Rheinland as the land belongs to the LVR (public service that oversees all kinds of stuff) and the club that built the trail doesn’t want to pay for the inspection…
Road and gravel is still fun so I just go fast xD
Beautiful evening today:
Pouring rain today…which is always a great time to ride. Only 16 miles…but it was a nice, hilly workout that had me spinning my lowest gear a few times…
So I picked up a Solite 250 headlamp for our biking trip. Since we have a front bag mounted to our handlebars, I wanted to go with a helmet mounted solution. This one will actually mount to the front tube, below the bag if we want. Given that we do a ton of hiking, I didn’t really want to buy a dedicated bike light that we will barely use. We will only be biking a tiny bit at night on our eight day trip…like less than four hours total hopefully. This is the Solite 250, not the 250EX…so it is a bit cheaper (might be an older model)…
It is really nice…the battery wired to the lamp 250, so the battery mounts behind your head (or behind your helmet).
Or you can also use it as a handheld flashlight by clipping the lamp directly to the top of the battery housing…
Little test in the rain last night as full power (250 lumens) - that tree is 100’ down our driveway…
Even on medium setting…illuminates well past 100’…
Four different intensities give 2:30 (high), 5:00 (medium), 20:00 (low) 100:00 (reading).
I always wondered what type of person buys an orange car.
Now I know.
Well you never have to spend much time looking for it in a parking lot, that is for sure
