Russian inventiveness for you: not only does the chainsaw power the bike, it’s also very effective at making sure people don’t get in your way. I bet these are going to rule the Dutch inner cities in a short while.
There may be some issues with the new emission standards though.

I’m not sure if you are trying to win Le Tour in July that you want this much form in March. At least that used to be the prescribed method. They used to target the Tour of Switzerland and Criterium du Dauphine. @whareagle might need to chime in on this one.
That’s what the legislators would focus on, with such a design.
It’s a novel approach to crash tests. You gotta be open to new things.
I just finished listening the Chris Horner relive stage 17 of the 2006 Tour, when Landis road away from the peloton. Horner was a domestique for Cadel Evans at the time and he discusses not only how hard that day was, but its ramifications on the sport for years to come. We know what the press was saying at the time about how the teams made mistakes letting Landis go, but here’s what really happened.
Horner is the best. What a nice guy and, I now know, a great story-teller. How much finer that story would have been had Floyd bot tested positive. Thanks for sharing that.
It wasn’t until the Cadel interview at the end that I realized how small that team was, that Chris was the only guy who could stay with his leader over 4 of the 5 climbs, how hard the descents were, and how difficult that day must have been. I always assumed that the lieutenants who climb with their boss are only there to keep him out of the wind and chase breaks. But in this case, the team was so weak, Horner was having to do it all. Love the fact that he won the Vuelta at 41 years old. Amazing.
I was never a huge Horner fan. But that was purely based on the interactions I had seen with him and Christian on NBCSN…those two really didn’t have great chemistry. I’ll have to watch that segment though…I did always enjoy his stories about the teams he raced with. I get the feeling that perhaps Christian is closer to the current peloton (like has way more friends and contacts) and is sometimes an apologist for them moreso than the opinionated and more distant Horner. So it is actually probably a perfect combo…insights from inside the peloton combined with more critical commentary from someone that doesn’t have to worry about ■■■■■■■ anyone off or stepping on toes. Good cop bad cop.
I do miss the days of Bob and Christian in the studio and Paul and Phil in the booth together. That team had some great chemistry.
Watching Stage 17 of the Vuelta right now…so pretty close to being finished with that…!
Finally finished the Vuelta…! What a great event…amazing that the organizers pulled it off, and a great competition throughout with the red jersey swapping leaders a few times. Great job by Hannah Walker and Anthony McCrossan did a fantastic job with the commentary. Really enjoyable. And interesting to see Spain in that late season racing with the cold and changing leaves etc…
Highly suggest watching the Volta, which is still in progress. Scuttlebut heard during stage 3 is that Sepp Kuss will be the Jumbo Vizma team lead for the Vuelta.
That dude is a machine. There were many times I felt he could have rode (ridden?) away from Roglic last season…
Yes, but Horner has some interesting comments about that situation. Watch Volta stage 3 first though.
I’ll see ya’ in a month…
So as always, after I finish an event (the Vuelta in this case), I’m always excited to go watch The Move podcast to get the dirt. The post-Vuelta one was very good. Johan is just awesome…all the other mortals on the podcast live in his shadow of knowledge and insight.
His inside information on the dynamics of team Movistar, Carapaz, and Ineos is fascinating…and the drama in the peloton is interesting to hear about. And the renaming of Bahrain Merida is hilarious…and the juggling of bike sponsors is also interesting to hear about. A lot going on behind the scenes that most of us never really hear too much about. Anyway…it was a great podcast…hilarious as always.
My wife always perks up when she hears that opening harmonica riff of The Move. She loves Lance and says she identifies with him.
I wish you’d get caught up so we could talk current stuff!
