Cycling thread

Roglic last raced in the Ardennes Classics and then said he would not race again until Le Tour. Last year he thought he burnt out with too busy a schedule so is trying something new. He wants to come into the Tour fresh and carry that over to the Olympics. He’s been training hard in the French Alps recently.

He dislocated his shoulder during Paris - Nice and if he was a footballer would still be rolling on the floor in agony now, but cyclists are a different breed. Apart from that he is reported to be in great condition.

Guess I’ll sign up for Peacock Premium at $4.99/mo to catch the TDF later this month. I think due to regional restrictions GCN+ can only show highlights in the United States (I guess you could VPN it). There is very little information on what exactly we will get for Peacock Premium with regards to race coverage - is it going to be the same broadcast crew as was on NBCSN? Hopefully there will be full replays available.

I guess I’ll be canceling FloBikes since I think with Peacock I’ll be able to get the Vuelta as well maybe…and with GCN+ with the Giro that takes care of the three majors.

What a tangled web… All of that said, still enjoying the GCN+ coverage of the Giro. Top notch commentary and guests… (currently on Stage 3).

Stage 4 Giro (I know…I know)…

Great ride in that terrible rain for American Dombrowski… That was a fun one to watch…!

TDF starting in less than a week…!

TdF stage 1

Interesting day. Really pleased for Alaphilippe. Nice to see Cav back on the tour. Not sure how G will be this year, whether he has the legs.

I need to check the route and see how it is this year. I’ve been following the Euro’s too much. What a month for sport. It almost feels like we’re back to normal.

…and you guys really need to catch up.

Weird. Was just looking at that and ie appeared ok for me (I mean the tag did but it did’t hide it. Seems to be ‘working’ now?

Yeah, weird all working now. Must be your influence @Fridge.

TdF stage 1

Man, hated to see Froomie go down. I know that his pre-race form hasn’t been that good, but he was his team lead and I was looking forward to seeing how he would do over 3 weeks. Damn. Many riders will be sore tomorrow. The shame is that both crashes could have been avoided.

Cheers for Alaphillippe. What a ride.

It passed 13km from my house, I cycled there, got a handful of the usual rubbish from the caravan, watched the riders go past at amazing speeds then cycled like a lunatic back home to watch the finish on tv. The rest of the Tour will be spent more relaxed with my feet up in front of the screen drinking beer.

I could catch it tomorrow as well but more chance of missing the finish and it should be a good one to watch. I’ve gone up the Mur de Bretagne a few times and it’s a horrible hill to climb, just one big straight slog up. I doubt the peloton will hardly notice it but it kills me.

What fun Camembert! I think tomorrow is another stage made for Alaphillippe, provided he didn’t work too hard today. Did not appear that way. Enjoy tomorrow whatever you chose. Cheers.

What a great win. What a crazy stage. What an awesome lineup for the entire Tour…it is so start packed. I’m trying to keep up this year. Great to see Cav back in the peloton as well.

If I drop out of this thread it means I got behind… :upside_down_face:

So I’m watching on Peacock - and to my disappointment they just farmed out the commentary to (EuroSport?) - I mean…the commentators are great…they are the same crew I’ve been listening to on GCN+ I think…but are Christian and Bob and Phil and company all out of a job now? Darn shame since I enjoyed their interactions…

I will say, if I only subscribe to Peacock for two months, that is a nice value if I only want to catch the Tour.

Regarding Stage 1: Tim Declercq (sp?) is a verified beast. The Tractor put on a display on the front of the peloton that entire stage. The dude is like a semi-truck wind break. How can he do that the entire day!!!

I found the NBCSN coverage in the Peacock app…

Pretty phenomenal Stage 2…

MVP with the awesome math skillz taking that 8 second bonus on the first lap of the finale…then just riding away from everyone at the end. Awesome.

Fun watching The Move again…I missed it. Poor George only being able to do 2 pull-ups…this will be relentless for the next three weeks…

Watching The Tour made me have to polish up my Revenio. Gonna take it for a spin tomorrow instead of the gravel bike…

Silver, blue, white, and black is my favorite color combination, so really digging your bike Beach. Especially with the blacked-out Ultegra. She sure is a beauty. I had the same inclination for a road bike ride today, but have been fighting a really bad cold for the last few days. I had forgotten what those were during the times of masks + hand sanitizer. Decided to wait one more day.

TdF Stage 2

Today’s stage was the very best of sport. It began by the image of #31 back on his bicycle, which was surprising after seeing him being helped walk into the hospital last night. I’m no Chris Froome fanboy, but I do very much applaud and appreciate anyone at his age who is fighting to comeback after the crash he suffered, breaking his back and leg. And Marc Solar finishing yesterday after fracturing both elbows! That had to be bloody painful.

But Mathieu van der Poel’s win was one of the most memorable that I’ve seen in recent years.

What a fantastic stage that was, the average speed of the final climb was about 31kph. I know it was no Alpine climb but still it’s an amazing feat.

There is some incredible talent in the peloton at the moment and I reckon the standard is at it’s highest it’s ever been. What a great sight to see Alaphilippe go over to Mathieu van der Poel and congratulate him at the end. This Tour could end up being one of the best. This text will be blurred

It’s a sprinter’s stage today, am I dreaming to think Cav could pull it off?

How often do you (the general, hand waving at the group ‘you’) clean your chain?

When I was riding a lot, say 3 to 5 group rides a week, I’d wash my bike and clean it every two weeks. I’d lube it at a minimum weekly. These days a lot less, since work and family have cut so deeply into my personal time. When it looks like it needs it, or probably lube it every 4 or 5 rides, and wash/clean when a bike looks grungy.

Whenever it’s dirty….

Longer answer… somewhere between sticky and grinding paste on my commuter bike and every few rides on my decent road bike. Using a good degreaser and a chain cleaner and chain brush.

If it’s really bad, I’ll take the chain off and put it in an old plastic fizzy drinks bottle with degreaser and leave it to soak a while.

Mountain bike, would be after every ride as it’s either muddy or dusty depending on the weather.
