Looks horrible riding today, especially in the peloton. Hope G is ok, but he seemed to hit the ground quite hard.
Updated…
Wow so many crashes. Shame for Sagan getting taken out at the end as he was looking like he fancied a go for the win. Caleb Ewan didn’t look good. That crash 5 mins before looked bad as well.
Errr…I think I’ve only cleaned my gravel bike chain once. I ride in the wet occasionally…which seems to clean it up sorta… I do use some chain lube about every five rides…
Yeah…when I can start hearing things happening down there…is when I give it some love…
Stage 3:
Wow. Just wow. What an insane stage. All the favorites hitting the deck. Wow. Shame that Cav wasn’t able to make that final mini group that managed to escape all the carnage behind. When I saw Sagan go down I at first thought he had tangled with Cav and I was like…oh man…that is gonna be a story…!
Geraint Thomas wins my prize for being the hardest man in the peloton. Several years ago he fell in the first stage in Corsica and cracked his pelvis but still finished the race. So I suppose the doctor popping his dislocated shoulder back in place at the side of the road and shrugging it off and finishing is nothing to him. Unfortunately he seems to be an accident waiting to happen. Did anyone see him in The Tour de Romandie earlier this year? If not it’s worth googling.
What’s the odds on another boring sprint stage tomorrow?
Cyclists - if anyone is interested, I’m experimenting with some newish HR testing that seems to more accurately portray Lower Threshold. You’ll need a modern heart rate strap that works on BLE, preferably a Polar H10, a Garmin HRM Pro, or a 4iiii’s Viiiva. The Wahoo Tickr seems to have a lot of false readings.
But if you’re interested in fat burning, and increasing your aerobic capacity, this might be a fun way to learn more about yourself, and then track that over time. PM me for details.
Here’s how you Nerd Out. Vo2 gas exchange analyzer, front/rear camera, BLE/ANT+ chest strap, PM on the cranks, Phone and Garmin 1030 up front for all the data trapping and realtime analysis.
Great. I own two of those. Now when my kids beat me in a bunch sprint, I’ll know what to blame FWIW, it is pretty much in step with my Apple watch 5 HR sensor.
I know I shouldn’t care about Strava stuff…but I knew I felt a bit better riding this evening… Watching G-Thomas suffer today made me feel like I wasn’t really suffering…
I did 2 loops of whatever route this is in Zwift this evening. I am not generating the power that anyone else here is but it was fun to sweat in the basement with it being 35 C with the humidity outside.
I am noticing that the power being reported from my ‘clip on’ stationary system (Saris M2) is less than the ‘calculated’ outdoor power. I am just going to lie to myself that the calculated power is more accurate
It’s not so much that it’s giving false HR readings… It’s giving artifact readings in the HRV realm. Here - have a look at the graphs in the last 1/3 of this blog post. Wahoo are (in)famous for developing incredibly great products, but not updating them via firmware fixes in a timely fashion. Remember - the company was developed to basically run CompuTrainer out of business… which they did, with a product that took up to 8 seconds to generate ‘onset of load’, which made short/sharp intervals impossible.
But hey, it was wireless, and that was all that mattered.
With so many of the big GC contenders hitting the deck…man, I’d love to see Quintana win the TDF and give him the trifecta (Giro and Vuelta already accomplished)…
Not sure where Uran is in the GC lineup right now…can’t remember if he got caught up behind those pile-ups…
Watching Stage #4 right now. Beer commercials at 9AM…when is it 5 o’clock?
