Daddy's Got a Brand New Build

Don’t think it does, it’s an X570 (5900X CPU). The RMA has been sent. Still staring at it, waiting for it to “do something” (it’s an expensive paper-weight right now)

hmm I just googled it too bad but you already RMA’d the vid card… I hope you get good news soon… Good Luck…

Merry Christmas…

Same here! Good old TUF Gaming X570-PLUS (WI-FI)!

Turn off Armory Crate in your BIOS … turn off Aura RGB crap in your BIOS, do not install stupid AI Suite … we are your Human Suite now @Navynuke99!

Is this a good deal?

Naw, 11 and 10 series intel cpu get blown away by the new 12 series. They are also inferior to contemporary AMD CPU’s. So get a 12700K.

I’m building a 12th gen i7

Just keep in mind that DDR5 is impossible to find and expensive if you do. I went with the DDR4 motherboard version for now.

The other hard part to find, although improving, is the back plate availability for coolers included in the box. Most MFR’s will send a free one if your willing to wait.

Thanks!

I would say depends on from what you upgrade

the price alone seems reasonable good to me. i7-10700K can set you back as much as 330EUR around here.

btw KF is always better value imo

12700K goes here for 420EUR… so where is that calc…

…and so, it begins.

I have that MB!

Course, the GPU is still lost in space so no idea how well this paperweight works yet.

Christmas comes early in the @Navynuke99 household this year :+1:

So, to update…

She’s alive! Got the OS installed, but now that all the testing is ok, cleaning up the cables a bit more in the case (it’s a beast- glad I didn’t skimp there), and redoing the cables and connectors and mounts in the Obutto while I have everything apart. I figure I’ll start pulling essential files from the older drives in the next couple of days.

Not to hijack @Navynuke99 's thread or anything. Seriously.

Got my RMA’s 3080Ti back so the rig is no longer an expensive paperweight.

It’s working. Well, not everything at first. The Reverb G2 was a no go…until I played whack-a-mole with all the USB ports. Good thing I found one because getting hold of HP tech support to get a new G2 cable was getting nowhere. And they are out of stock. That was really gonna peeve me off.

So, from this:

Intel i6700K at 4.4ghz + 32Gb RAM + nVidia 1080 (not a Ti) w/8Gb VRAM

To this:

AMD 5900X (shows it boosting to 4.7Ghz) + 64 Gb RAM + 3080Ti /12Gb VRAM…

I’m not overwhelmed. “On paper” it should be 90-ish+ percent faster. So I figured maybe 50% faster. More like 30-40%. So far. Let the tweaking begin. It does load in about 1/4 the time though.

It never ends.

Oh, andthe keyrbord that cam with thisrig sux!

nice! for both of you

FWIW, I’ve been able to tweak it a little, using the stuff from here:

I’m pretty happy with the settings from the previous rig with the exception of a little higher res and a little higher view distance. So overall it’s clearer and I can keep [flat] shadows with a smoother experience - just enough eye-candy without dragging it down. This is in VR BTW.

Missing my haptic feedback and voice attack big time however (the keys aren’t working yet). Things like saying “salute” or “approaching for refuel/ready pre-contact”, “ball”, etc - I’m fumbling all over now. Ick. And it feels so dead without that, literally, seat-of-the-pants feedback. Wish they’d support that natively in DCS. Might reduce the latency to near zero.

So, got it tweaked as far as I care to go. Looks like it’s on average about 75% faster.

An example: Hornet in cockpit; on the CV deck; 6 AI planes; sunrise; overcast + rain: old FPS ~25, new: ~44
Can actually hold 85+ low level over the country side in Syria. Nice.

Lot of range there though. Am able to turn on the weather now: rode a JDAM down (F6 view) through multiple layers, in the rain (yes!). Then this image flashed through my mind:

All in all, as the DCS sits now, it’s going to take a 5080Ti to get 90FPS in VR in ‘normal’ circumstances. Add a lot of units - actual targets for the Combat part of DCS - and perhaps not so much.

Pushing the finish line a little further.

IMC recovery to the CV is such fun! Funny how that might not be true IRL (right?)
