DCS 2.5 Update Thread (2018)

DCS World Open Beta News
This week we updated the Open Beta of DCS World 2.5 to include a number of fixes and additions. Highlights of this week’s Open Beta update include:

  • Addressed an intermittent multiplayer host crash.
  • Fixed a crash related to multi-monitor use.
  • Corrected VR issues related to 4K monitors and cursor scale.
  • Aircraft carrier catapult adjusted for low temperature conditions.
  • Added work-in-progress update to properties of Medium and High PRF radar emission. There is a known issue with Medium PRF with high-aspect targets.
  • Hornet ACM boresight mode extended to 10 nm.
  • Corrected UH-1H glass transparency.
  • Numerous AJS-37 fixes and improvements.
  • Added the Yak-52 to the Logbook.

Regarding the Hornet, it’s important to note that we are now focusing on some of the more difficult and time-intensive tasks like making several fundamental changes to the air-to-air radar simulation (will have benefits with other modules), the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS), and other systems we’ve touched on recently. As such, the number of new items for the Hornet will be less than before, but the same amount of attention and manpower is being devoted.

Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer
Coming to DCS World as an AI-only ship unit, the Arleigh Burke is an American guided missile destroyer that forms the backbone of the US Navy surface fleet. Built around the SPY-1D multi-function Aegis Combat System radar system, the Arleigh Burke is armed to the teeth with surface-to-air, surface-to-surface, and anti-ship weapons and defense systems.

As we grow the naval aviation component of DCS World with the Hornet, Tomcat, and other future carrier-borne aircraft, the Arleigh Burke is a much-needed component to create a modern, realistic naval task force.

DCS World

  • Old style Labels option recognized incorrect fixed

  • GUI Error when trying to paste a linked unit fixed

  • Temporary solution for sound issue: disabled streaming until the rare race condition

  • Controls in the window bottom now accessible in 4k resolution

  • Uncontrolled HAI falls through the ship fixed

FC3

  • FC3 and Su-33: added missing filename extensions

  • Su-33: twin rocket blocks moved from 4,9 to 3,10 pylons

F/A-18

  • F/A-18 Lesson_2 Cold Start mission corrected (static object moved from of aircraft)

Before anyone laments the lack of a mention of F/A-18C radar fixes, @NineLine posted this over on Hoggit:

The radar is having significant changes/fixes done, it’s a very complex task, but high priority task.

The radar is just going through a phase. It’s having frequent issues with arrays.

Campaigns

  • Mi-8 Oilfield: Mission 12 improved, APA-80 starts after switching off the external power

New additions coming to the map include the SA-2 and Rapier surface-to-air missile system, the HY-2 Silkworm anti-ship cruise missile, the Aldar Headquarters building, the Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque, and oil platforms. After that, new airfields (Abu Dhabi International Airport), unique buildings (Abu Dhabi with F1 race track), and weapons (Scud) will be added.

So, while the map size is final, we are and will continue to be add content to this map.

One of the new air defense systems that is soon coming to DCS World will be the Rapier SAM. First developed for the British Army, it was later adopted by a number of nations that includes Iran, UAE, and Oman. The system uses a manual, optical guidance system that directs the missile over a radio link (cannot be jammed or decoyed!).

A typical battery includes the optical tracking station, launchers and a Blindfire radar for air space surveillance.
