DCS 2.5 Update Thread (2020)

Maybe I missed a couple then. i had 4900mbs and I dont own everything.

Watch your step on that second landing. It’s a doozie!

There is some joke in here about dancing the limbo and ā€œHow low can you go?ā€ā€¦etc.

The big one came out Friday so probably that. With the new WWII assets

I remember reading something about checking positive climb rate before grabbing the lever thingy with the circular handle…seemed unimportant at the time

The A20, Ju88 and Armour looks so good in a mission

They might not have listed it but I gotta say I’ve seen improvements with this small patch.

When I downloaded this patch I saw a loss in visual quality. I play only in VR. I then cleared the fxo and shader metafiles. Huge improvement. I’m very happy now.

Yeah, FPS has taken a real nosedive since Feb.

I’ve had a mild obsession with the Ka50 ā€œGeorgian Oil Warā€ Campaign ever since the pre-DCS Black Shark days. I rolled through it back in the day. But it’s been a real bear to make any progress with it since the latest Ka50 update. In fact, I gave up because I couldn’t really see well enough in VR. But recently one of you pointed out the super-zoom VR feature which I never knew existed. That’s made it much easier to spot bad guys but the mission is still really tough. I am curious if any of you have progressed through it recently and, if so, what tactics are working for you. I do know that wingmen are still suicidal. I also feel that ground AI are much better. Anyway, I am having loads of fun despite the constant repeats.

I thought I saws something about improved water transparency in a recent up date…

…then saw this last night.

So there is way more–deeper–water transparency. Is that a good thing? Aside from the waters off some nice tropical beaches, I don’t ever recall seeing seawater this transparent…and I have seen a lot of seawater…just say’n. :slightly_smiling_face:

I once had a dive off Belize where the visibility was 200 feet. I’ve never experienced anything like it before or since but it can happen. How did you sink that thing?

Flew a viggen into it…

Close…a pair of RB-15’s from a Viggen - one got splashed with an AK-630 by an accompanying Tarantul PGG…sorry Molniya (old habit)…but one got through…boom…big boom.

I have, Central Caribbean, in summer time, when the tides are fairly low and there’s not a lot of wind blowing up waves. So add a few asterixes at the end there.

Scottish Islands the water is crystal clear. You can watch divers descend to 20m plus and viz underwater was 40 plus m at 30m depth. Of course a storm or heavy rainfall filling rivers can adversely effect coastal waters but deep sea doesn’t suffer from these phenomenon

I acknowledge all of your experiences and they all sound wonderful. You have added a couple of must see places to my bucket list. :slightly_smiling_face:

That said, this also helps prove my point. The was under overcast and raining skies in the Strait of Hormuz. I shouldn’t have been seeing a good 40 ft down.

But that is OK. In virtual realty (if there is such a thing), I was many miles away, back over the mountains trying to put as much distance as I could between my Viggen and that frigate’s SAMs. The only virtually real indication that I had scored a hit would have been the cessation of the RWR indications from his radar. So hitting the F9 key to ogle at my success, and thereby notice the depth of the water transparency, is not realistic and truly did nothing to detract from the mission experience.

Still, it was a critical comment. When I look at all the good work ED does I cannot help to be appreciative of their skill and dedication. At the same time, since I am running the Beta version, I think Ie have an obligation to point out when their good work as hit and perhaps exceeded the mark. If they still have folks working on water transparency I would opine that they have done a tremendous job already and need not do more. That’s all. :slightly_smiling_face:

Next…see about booking a vacation to those Scottish isles!

No doubt! I had no idea the water was so clear there. Next business trip to Glasgow I’ma gonna take a few days for myself.

Handy for a quick ferry to Arran from Glasgow, Mull is my favourite and the beaches on Skye are beautiful white sands and gin clear water

This is all because of the subs coming along in the future I believe.
