Unlike most of the post-FC3 modules I bought, I learned a good amount about the Ka-50 and A-10C just because when I got them there wasnât anything else available. That made it easy to focus!
Once FC3 came out we had all those nice Eagles and Flankers in the mix, but of course they were much easier to learn.
I honestly donât recall, was the P-51 the first DCS release after DCS World came out? And then the Huey and the Hip?
I think the first I bought was the MiG-21, via the Indiegogo campaign, but of course it took years to come out. As a result, the next one I got was the F-86FâŠin Oct 2014 (I just looked it up) and only a short 6 years later I still have about 3 hours in the thing. I didnât get another until the Viggen in 2017, and the Harrier later that yearâŠand I have barely any more time in either of them.

Viper is very fun
Not that is going above and beyond, comrade Nitstsa!
Guilty myself. I think it was half, âoooh, lotsa stuff here, and Brrrrtâ, and half, âlets support EDâ. Bet itâs been at least 2 years since Iâve fired it up.
Ouch. Thatâs gotta hurtâŠGuess a WOW gizmo wasnât around when Mikoyan got their first slide-rule.
Ya know, I tell myself that itâs x-dollars vs y-hours of âedutainmentâ. When I amortize it that way I tend to feel a little warmer inside
I think about that every time I am hanging under my chute and my MiG-29 is disappearing below me in flames and spiralling towards the mud down there (Over the Hump campaign)
The F-16 with their (over)deadly Amraams are butchers!

Bug Killer
Beta Testing
After the last two Open Beta (OB) releases, we received motivating feedback from our community pertaining to issues in need of immediate attention. We have logged and are actively tracking over 2,500 bugs. In the last week, we have squashed close to 283 bugs and will continue this pace for the next two weeks.
We have decided to change the release schedule of DCS World Open Beta in order to allow for more detailed Quality Assurance and testing periods, but most importantly for our team to fix bugs and enhance performance.

WWII Radars
Freya and WĂŒrzburg-Riese
The Freya radar was an early warning system developed by the Germans and technically more advanced than the British Chain Home, but less efficient. Because of itâs smaller size it was semi-mobile. However due to its complexity, only 1,000 units were produced.
The low-band 53cm wavelength WĂŒrzburg radar was the primary ground based radar for the Wehrmachtâs Luftwaffe. During the war, the Freya and WĂŒrzburg pair made for excellent âspot and trackâ systems capable of determining enemy aircraft range and altitude.
The WĂŒrzburg-Riese known as the Giant WĂŒrzburg was developed based on the same circuitry and featured a much larger 7.4m antenna and more powerful transmitter able to provide up to 70 kilometers of range. The WĂŒrzburg-Riese was used to direct pilots towards incoming aircraft. Over 50,000 bombers were traced and shot down with the help of these radars. They are significant corner stones and mark the beginning or electronic warfare.
We are excited to share our progress and look forward to your battle reenactments using these models and the countermeasure tactics needed to cope with German radar coverage.

I couldnât put it better if I tried. I still keep buying them though. Iâm a 48 year old kid in a candy store it seems.
I wonder if this could be done through modding with a bit of fancy LUA script. The F-18 and Tomcat in particular could probably be pretty effective using the same HOTAS callbacks as on the Su27 or A-10A. But the callbacks would need to execute the 2-10 steps to get the weapon or sensor ready to use. I donât think it would be that hard to do.

I love the Viggen and enjoy ripping along at low level. The radar is phenomenal.
But I have the hardest time learning the weapon system. I downloaded a kneeboard chart with all the numbers, so maybe that will help.
Donât get bogged down in all the codes.
Obviously 9099 is important. As is 9 + Bn for the target.
For the weapons, really only come into play with the anti ship missiles and the BK-90. Most likely you can set up both before you take off. Plus 800002 is the default for the Rb-15. Iâve never used the â20â series of codes.
For TID, I just use the TOT I want. HHMMSS + Bn
Once you have those down, itâs probably a good idea to remember 90xx and 99xx to change to a different landing airfield. Likewise how to change the landing runway heading in âBanana Gramsâ (what does that mean @Troll?) ⊠and maybe the 30xx standoff code.
Remember you canât eat an elephant in one bite!
(why somebody would want to eat an elephant is beyond me)
I need to catch my breath before answering that oneâŠ!
BANA/GRĂNS refers to RUNWAY/BOUNDARIES.
I laughed at @Hangar200 reference to banana, because the swedish word for runway is bana, or banan in singular definite form. Banan can also mean Banana, in Swedish, but with slightly different tonation.
If you select a landing waypoint, and this WP doesnât have a stored runway, you can enter the runway alignment. If you select another waypoint (B1, B2, etc.) you can set a grĂ€ns, or boundary, which can be used to specify an ingress direction, to said WP.
Yes.
By switching to AKT/POS and entering the base code (90xx for destination and 99xx for alternate).
Select BANA/GRĂNS and press the L waypoint button to step through the available runways at that base.
