DCS 2.5 Update Thread (2020)

Nice!!!

The 16 gets AGM-65s

and…

The AV-8 got GBU-32s and GBU-54s!!!

lets not start that again.

That being said, most of those fixes were already well on their way to being fixed and testing, so if you really think all that stuff was fixed in a week or less after that reddit was posted, then ya need to learn more about the programming behind such software.

That should become a best practice. I can understand the brief form in a change log but I always wondered what certain features are in detail, i.e. “updated HOTAS functionality” in previous patches.

Right, but it’s also weird to have a list of bugs that have been outstanding for years suddenly get fixed after Razbam has a shakeup? Either they’ve been sitting on it for a while, which doesn’t make them look good, or they’ve been given a kick in the but by ED to fix them. I do not believe these things are uncorrelated, that would make less sense in this regard.

It makes much more sense that they simply didn’t care about bug fixes and that these were all relatively simple to implement.

I wonder if they might have been focusing on the Mirage, and then moved on to finishing the Harrier.

I thought the Mirage saw a major rework. I may be misremembering.

I disagree. You are attributing malice to their actions when that makes no sense.

Or, they were developing software which, as the saying goes, ‘fix one bug, add two more’. A more likely explanation is that they have been working on the Harrier for some time, collecting bug fixes in their development branch so that they could give us all a nice chunk of fixes like Heatblur does. Reducing the frequency of releasing bug fixes means that they get more time to test and more time to spot unintended changes or bugs generated when a few fixes are merged together (complex systems and complex interactions) and all of that.

As a software development myself, that explanation is way more likely.

Also an important point maybe:
Their NDA with ED might prevent them from talking about issues on the engine side blocking the release or further development of features that Razbam may have otherwise ready.
That is also a plausible explanation for not releasing a big list of stuff and then doing it all at once.
I encounter such issues in my job daily.

To clear things up a bit - they did state that they had been working on these issues for quite some time. Much of the Harrier needed a complete re-work after numerous ED core changes. Some of the fixes may be “ED inspired” as once they got involved they directed some community priority items to Razbam, but considering the timespan between that and release that would only amount to a few of the items and others may have been in the pipeline already anyway. The big Harrier update was originally intended to be a bit of a surprise. So @Fridge is quite close.

The new CM, Razbam_Elmo is working away on the bug reports. They’ve already had an issue where the new GBU’s can cause a CTD, however he has published a small hotfix for community testing to help them narrow down the root cause. I was going to try to help submit to the report but I found myself way out of practice with the Harrier (I had taken a deep dive into mastering the Hornet) and by the time I got sorted the hotfix was there.

That covers the upside of the matter, the downside can stay at the ED forums.

Having not been in the Harrier for some time - the cockpit is damn pretty, and the new sounds are so much better. The engine’s unique sound is even more so now.

We could start a lottery over those “bonus” changes, ha! The more specific your guess, the more you win!

Just checked earlier today. For me they still spin

Latest drivers? Redo the shaders?

Wasn’t it more hit or miss before anyway? I don’t remember seeing them all the time in VR, but more often than not.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

We are pleased to announce that DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is now airborne. After substantial
internal testing, we are confident the flight model and weapons will surpass your expectations.
The HMCS consists of several sub-systems, in this video, we’ll focus on the Helmet Mounted
Display (HMD) and the Profile Editor: DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer | Helmet Mounted Cueing
System (HMCS).

We would like to share our development progress on DCS: Supercarrier. In Open Beta 2.5.6
we added CVN-75 Harry S. Truman. We are currently finalising the key commands to activate
cut lights and wave off lights from the LSO station. We are also working on new pilot flight suits
and more fluid animations.

A new 12 mission historical campaign based in 1944 is now available for DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Anton.
This campaign includes historically accurate liveries, detailed briefings and mission specific kneeboard
cards and checklists. Complete missions such as patrol, intercept, bomber escort and ground attack.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

A-10C II Tank Killer
Released to Open Beta

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer adds new weapons such as; the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons
System (APKWS), AGM-65L laser-Maverick, and GBU-54 laser-guided JDAM. A completely
remodelled cockpit with options for factory-fresh and weathered textures. The “Scorpion”
Helmet-Mounted Integrated Targeting (HMIT) system used to train the 355th Wing cadets
and the updated external model now set the bar for our future releases.

We have updated the preset key commands for HOTAS hardware to make new users feel
more comfortable learning this in-depth system. The fully interactive Forward Air Controller
(FAC) will also help you find and engage enemy targets, cooperative target engagement has
been taken to a new level.

With the improved ability to command ground forces, the vast number of land, air and sea units
as well as feature-rich cooperative missions and head-to-head multiplayer; We are proud to say
this is the most realistic model ever done for PC simulation.

Pricing Policy
DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is available now for $79.99. If you own DCS: A-10C Warthog, you can
upgrade to DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer for only $9.99 until the 31st of October 2020. After that,
the upgrade will cost $19.99.

The upgrade option and module are both available on Steam and Eshop now.

A new addition to the renowned A-10C is the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS). It provides
excellent situational awareness and the ability to cue weapons and sensors by just looking at the
target and setting a designation. Please note that this is not the same helmet implementation as
for the Viper and Hornet systems; it is in many ways far superior.

Watch the last video in the DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer Preview Series:
DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer | Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS).

Supercarrier
Development Progress

We are currently working on the animation engine capabilities. We have added additional animations
to vary operations phases on-board DCS: Supercarrier. A new skeleton that better matches human
anatomy is in progress, this will improve realistic deck crew movement.

We are also working on improving the catapult launch animation for the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet pilot.
The hand models have been corrected whilst we continue to develop Nomex® flight gloves. We are
also using highly detailed 3D scanning technology to better model the pilot for point-of-view experience.
When complete, the CWU-27 / p Flight Suit and the CSU-13 / p Anti-G Suit will be available.
