It was requested to have a portable TACAN and ICLS system so that the Hornets can land in instrument conditions on land airfields, since our version was one that does not have ILS equipment. Such portable systems apparently do exist in real life, and are used on an as-needed basis.
That would be nice. Especially a user placed TACAN. Would really open up a new realm of possibilities for mission designers, especially if road FARPs and place-able airfields ever become a thing. What we really need for aircraft like the Hornet and Tomcat that can’t use land based ILS systems is the ability to do a PAR (Pilot Assisted Recovery).
I am happy to report that after a very long talk with the Political Officer, I am now able to land the Glorious MiG in one piece. Most of the time. ![]()
You need a gree tank though… My OCD pokes my brain like a finger in the eye!

Brilliant.
I probably wouldn’t have noticed that for a while, but now all I can think is “QF/A-18E.”
Seems like we’re getting too many letters in designations these days. . . ![]()
