DCS 2.7 Discussion

I’m thinking I might do a complete DCS reinstall when version 2.7 comes out.Just to avoid any hic-ups and issues that might be caused by mixing the old with the new.I have a fair internet connection so it should only take the better part of a day.In VR I need all the help I can get.

The repair tool now has a more intensive check option, so I would think that should be OK.

Do you think The Mariana’s Map will be released in The DCS World 2.7 Release? Wouldn’t that make sense?

I thought that map was touted for Q2, so April to June 2021 at the earliest, but not in the same window as 2.7 and the clouds, for Q1. I can’t find a reference now though, so might all be me being wrong.

It would be an epic launch. But on the other hand, marketing wise, if they hold it a little further they will have more to talk about and generate buzz around the year.

I feel this is going to create all the Buzzzz they need

A selected group of Crypto miners use more current than all of Argentina.

Last time I visited my old hometown in Sweden, I noticed that there were big roof fan units, running 24/7, on the old abandoned dairy production complex… My brother told me that the building was rented by Russian Cryptominers…!

I’m concerned with “eye candy inflation.” When Edge(?) was coming out in the merge from 1.5 to 2.5, increased performace was promised. And we received. Briefly. Then performance steadily went downhill to where it is now because of so many things beeing added to the game without optimizations. With Vulkan(?) and 2.7, I’m expecting the same to happen: An initial performance boost, then as ED disregards optimization in favor of pushing the engine to its limits, performance will go down the drain again and we’ll be all hyped up for the next engine/API/whatever.

Curious about 2.7 and ED statement about no support for Win7.
Does that mean I’m on my own, or I won’t even be able to play until I can upgrade?

Indeed. You stay at current version for DCS, or upgrade your OS. I would advise the latter. Its a fairly paimless upgrade and 10 is better than 7 and much safer to boot.

I see your point and it is valid.
Since then, ED seems to be more structured in the development of DCS.
But, we can’t expect the eye candy development to stop either. It will always be a balance. I just hope that they weigh the pros and cons of added graphical effects, in the future. I mean, DCS looks incredible already. It just needs to run a little faster.

@piper :
I’m with @schurem here.
I upgraded to Win7 after all these years, just in January and I could not believe it.
I own an original license for Win7 and the upgrade went smooth as silk, no extra costs, and the best part is - despite me backing up all my data, the O. S. was updated “around” my data leaving them untouched.
Even the personalized Windows options, desktop image and icons placing was left in place!

If someone would have told me that I wouldn’t have believed it.
It was probably the best Windows experience I’ve ever had.

We [the ‘gaming’ populace] are our own worst enemies. Always been so, likely always will be. Me? - my contribution to the madness is the desire for VR, though I’m happy with the graphics as. My wish is for improvement in the AI, at all levels. “Graphics sell games” they used to say…

From the 15 January update this feature - has it been added and is it specific to WWII missions or does the feature encompass other theaters?

“In some Single Player missions we have introduced FWAF (Fly With A Friend). It allows you to upload the mission to your own server and fly it with a friend or virtual squadron. Ideal for training and for those not quite ready to venture into multiplayer just yet. This is a great way to share the experience with those of you who are just getting started in DCS World.”
