DCS 2.7 Discussion

This is actually as good a reason as any to buy it…so I probably will at some point…

Actually. If @fearlessfrog makes a reappearance after his global travels and promises to talk me through the startup and first few flights, I will buy it and we will host a WW2 server on the Mudspike box.

And the top reply was, “TIL I’m effing ancient” when I saw that one.

311 was one of the best shows I’ve seen…at the Visulite in Charlotte. I don’t swing that way…but if I did…Nick Hexum is one attractive dude. At 50 or whatever he is…wow…I had to make sure my wife didn’t become a groupie. And SA Martinez (is that a play on “esse”?) absolutely killed it…he wore me out watching him with the energy he had. Any-who…we digress…

I don’t know, ah, what I just saw. But laughed pretty hard anyway.

An speaking of which…I don’t think I need the VR Shader mod anymore. Or at least there’s not much difference tween installed and OEM. Anyone notice? Actually it seemed better on the patch prior to this one but I was still in ‘auto-install’ mode with the Shader mod.

They’re one of those bands I’ve just ended up seeing a lot over the last 25 years (Holy crap, can’t believe I can say that!), and I pretty sure one of those shows was at the Visulite- love that venue- back when WEND was still good.

Probably the most memorable show though was seeing them with Green Day in 2004 in Virginia Beach- that was an AWESOME show- the energy of BOTH bands.

I think that it might help visual ID aircraft better while in VR, but I notice myself toggling it off for screenshots lately.

just been flying around the channel and hopped on to Hollowpoint … not sure if its my imagination but FPS does seem to be better in VR

Best WW2 map? Probably picking up the P47 and the Mosquito today just need a map to go with it.

They’re both very nice maps!
Normandy has better performance, which is important to me in VR.
The Channel is prettier, more detailed and I like jumping over the channel to fight.
IMHO you can’t go wrong with the Normandy map, but the channel may be too demanding, performance wise. Depends on your hardware.

Went with Normandy for the simple fact that the WW2 assets pack came bundled with it for an extra $10.

The assets pack is the gift that keeps on giving, lots of new units since we first bought it, also the Normandy map is still very nice to fly on with loads of grass strips. It’s always been a favourite of mine even though the performance was meh for a long time

Depends what you want to do and how powerful your PC is. Channel is borderline when you don’t own a new gpu, Normandy runs very smooth but is far less detailed.

If you’re interested in semi historical pvp multiplayer, then the Storm of War server is the place to be, so you would need Normandy for that. All the missions focus around the D-Day time frame and are extremely well researched in regards to mission objectives, frontlines, troop placement and weather.

I get confused so badly about this - Normandy was the map released with the failed DCS WWII Kickstarter, while Channel is the newest release, that includes mostly Pas de Calais, am I right?

That’s correct :+1:

Another important difference: Normandy is made by 3rd party dev ugra media (who went on to rock it utterly with Syria) while Channel is made by ED in-house dev.

I found this comparison…

HAHHAHAHA Brilliant, and sorry.

Glowing (or is it “Growling”) Sidewinder runs a MP server similar to SoW, although not historic. It uses the Channel Map. I played for three hours yesterday and had a blast. My 1080 was brought to it’s knees. Much of it was a slideshow. But it was just playable and well worth the pain. I shot downan AI Ju88 with the Mossie, walking the shots with 303s until I had a bead good enough for the cannon. Good God!! The cannon!
